We are here now and my son wants me to ask what months/times they usually do character training at Epcot?

It is not something on any schedule a guest can see. This past Wednesday they appeared around 4:30p or so in the walkway leading backstage between America and Italy, but past results are no indication of future performance.

I've caught characters at the following:
-Between Italy and America
-Between the United Kingdom and Canada
-Around the International Gateway
-In Future World, by Figment

Usually I'll see them between noon-2:30. So far I've caught:

-Pocahontas
-Baloo
-Mickey
-Minnie
-Donald
-Daisy
-Chip & Dale
-Pluto
-Mr. Smee
-Cinderella
-Anastasia, Drizella, and Lady Tremaine
-Evil Queen
-Jack Sparrow

If he's looking for rare characters, Hollywood Studios has "Characterpalooza", which is the unofficial name for the pop-up meet and greet that feature Fantasmic characters. If I'm correct, it switches up quite a bit, but when I caught it (Fall 2016, several times between October and January), it would typically happen at 2:30 or 3:00 by the park entry, even before the turnstiles. Here I've caught:

-Aladdin and Jasmine
-Evil Queen
-Snow White
-Stitch
-Pocahontas
-Meeko
-Robin Hood
-Mary Poppins & Bert
-Tiana
-Pluto

We stumbled upon this last May! It was around 4:00 or so right around the corner from guest services. We met
Evil Queen
Dopey
Aladdin
Mulan
Tiana

check out kenny the pirate's character locator - its $8 for a year but has SO MUCH character information
