Disney changed our stateroom booked one year ago one month before sailing

To OP, I feel your pain. I booked same room for a 2015 Christmas cruise on the Fantasy. I have an autistic teen who is very private and I also have a toddler. I felt this room was a great solution as I could not afford a 1 bedroom suite.

My room was also changed by Disney close to sailing, I was not upgraded, received no onboard credit, and when I called DCL, they had no idea why they changed it.

My family blamed me and was so upset with me. Just seems odd that it was the same room.

Wow I am really surprised that they just moved you from the same cabin I had and did not give you any reason whatsoever. That is the complete opposite to excellent guest service that Disney prides itself of.

I really really bad for what they did to you. Having an autistic teen makes things even more serious to me than the situation I have. They should have provided you with a better solution.

Thanks for your comments!!

Personally, I would call DCL and discuss it with them. Demand something in exchange. They may not guarantee rooms, but the current format of forcing you to book 12+ months out makes it ridiculous. You should look on the site to see what rooms are available. When talking with them tell them which rooms would be an acceptable substitute.

Looking at the only cruise on 8/22 is the Wonder from Vancouver to San Diego. The biggest thing available is an 09C.

I understand it can be frustrating. Unfortunately, since you used a TA, they are the only ones that can probably argue for you. I would try to call DCL to see if you can work with them directly. If the person on the phone cannot satisfy you, ask for their Supervisor. If that Supervisor cannot satisfy you, ask to speak to their Supervisor. Keep going until you come to a satisfactory solution. In the end, the only solution you may have is to accept what they give you or cancel.

I know for a fact that persistence pays off when dealing with an issue Disney created. We went through this after 9/11 when Disney lost our reservation 5 days before our Honeymoon. It was a thorn in my side, but not something I had to deal with. The Supervisor took ownership, searched for every possible solution and negotiated different options before calling me back.

You should ask for more. Perhaps the Walt or Roy suite is available.

MUN

This is the second time I've seen the "Walt or Roy suite" and I never knew such a thing existed (semi-new to DCL). What are these magical rooms?! I want one! lol.

** Quick google: Got it! The Roy is better based on pictures - not that I could ever afford that. **

Those are really big and really expensive rooms. They are the top tier. I also want one of those but not enough money in my wallet!!

I tried to contact them to discuss it but, I made my reservation through a TA it must be my TA who contacts DCL. DCL will not discuss the matter with me directly.

Since I found out about the change just a month before sailing and being in high season, there are not many rooms available and looks like the ones I would like are already taken. I don't know if they have any Cat. T in inventory not for sale. That would be the one that could suit me better, even if I had to partially cover the upgrade paying more to get it.

Thanks for your help!!

That's frustrating! I would have your TA ask for the Roy or Walt, and go from there.

I can understand your disappointment and frustration. We also booked a specific stateroom, only because it's the same stateroom we had on our last cruise. I would be disappointed, as well, if the same thing happened to us.

No words of advice to offer but wanted to say that I do hope you are able to get some sort of satisfaction from this whether it's an upgraded room (maybe a nice verandah :)) or a generous OBC. Good luck!

Hey, that's a different thread! No, I would just give the Walt or Roy to you. However, I would make sure Snow White was on every voyage if I ran DCL.

Thank you for your support!! I also hope to be able to get satisfaction from this and be able to forget this issue and just concentrate on enjoying the vacation!

Unfortunately, with the cruise ship mostly booked, you are going to be stuck with what they have available or cancel unfortunately. The only thing I think they could do is offer more OBC but I doubt that is what they will do knowing the ship is nearly full. Your TA is the one that will have to fight for you. Depending on the agency, they may not have too much incentive to push this further.

The only real thing you can do is decide if you are going on the cruise or not. If you are going, brush it off like the weather. At this point it is out of your control. I would go to the room you had to make sure no one is in it. If someone is staying in it and the bumped you out, that is a whole different ball game.

Yes, I'm aware that the ship is almost full now. Had they made the change before, I would have been able to have more choices for sure.

I will definitely take the cruise. I live in Europe and all 3 of us have already purchased flights, 1 week stay in Orlando (we are staying at Universal's Royal Pacific this time), and also transfers besides of the cruise. So cancelling would be the last thing I may do.

I hope Disney can provide us with a good enough solution!

My very first cruise with Disney was chartered several months after booking

I was so disappointed so can totally understand how you feel

Wow that's even worse than what happened to us!! We still get to cruise on the dates planned...

Hope DCL took care of you properly!

We cruised in the Walt suite on the Wonder for my wife's 60th birthday in January 2015. Price wasn't as bad as I feared for a 5 night cruise out of Miami. Out of curiosity, I had checked the price for one of the Royal suites for our 12 night Mediterranean cruise on the Magic this summer. It was about $56,000 for the two of us. Decided to stay in our inside cabin :-)

Wow I whish I could try one Royal Suite!! Must be a great experience!!

Well we have reached an agreement with DCL.

I must say that the way they have solved it exceeded my expectations. I really want to thank DCL to solve it for us in such a good way. Now I am a very happy "guest" that will travel with DCL again for sure!!

We did not get any Suite, so... MUN I was out of luck this time!

They offered me a very good economical agreement (I'm afraid I will not be able to tell the specifics about it).

Thanks all for your answers and support!!

We understand why you can't tell us the specifics. Thank you for coming back to say that you are happy with how DCL solved it!
