Did anyone else miss registering for the CCC and it's now sold out? No one will tell us when it sold out, and when we first registered on the 14th of Feb for the marathon, there was no registration button. We then got an email on October 2nd about registering, but it was sold out by then. We've already contacted active (who said they aren't able to tell us when it sold out and what the race is capped at), RunDisney (who said in typical RunDisney fashion it sold out, too bad for you), and Disney cruiseline who said they have no control over it.

It's disappointing, to say the very least. It's my first marathon and first RunDisney race, and we registered for our cruise back in December of 2016 for this specific cruise. Part of it is definitely our fault, we didn't get clarification on registration, and it sold out. It just seems silly to offer this once a year, on one cruise, after one marathon weekend and it's possible to not get to run it after paying so much for a cruise and it being sold as the challenge cruise.

I was just curious of others missed it as well.

The email that's likely the one you got was posted on the rundisney board here.

It's a very poorly worded email telling people that people not registered for the challenge can still do the free island run. It's a terribly worded email. Awful. Atrocious.

But it wasn't the email telling people to sign up for the challenge.

We are truly excited that you will be joining us aboard the January 8, 2018, Disney Dreamsailing. As a Guest already scheduled on this cruise, we want you to know about the Disney Castaway CayChallenge, a runDisney event taking place as part of Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend events.

For the fourth year, the popular Castaway Cay 5K island run will become a challenge event for participants registered in any eligible race during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Participants on your sailing who complete the Castaway Cay 5K Challenge and a Marathon Weekend race event will earn the Castaway Cay5K finisher medallion and the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge medal, in addition to their Marathon Weekend medals. Participants must register through the runDisney.com website and complete both events within the pacing requirements. Registered participants in this challenge event will pick up their race packets at the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex during the marathon weekend.

Guests on your sailing, who would like to run in the Castaway Cay 5K but have not registered for any Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend events, may still participate in the Castaway Cay 5K to receive the finisher medallion only.

While the 5K course spans our island paradise and promises lots of sun and sand, on this particular day the race will also feature some magical Disney surprises along the way. Please visit http://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon/ to learn more about this exciting challenge event.

Thank you again for sailing with us. We look forward to seeing you in January.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line

I just went through waaaay too many pages of the big Marathon weekend thread on the rundisney forum here. The cc challenge was up for registration on the first day of both ap/dvc registration and on the 14th of feb. Apparently it took a little while for the challenge link to be up on the 14th, but it did appear.

If this experience hasn't soured you entirely on rundisney and you do this in the future, I HIGHLY recommend that you join the thread for the run you're interested in, and be a participant on the thread the morning of registration. The rundisney veterans there know what they are doing and will help newer people figure it out.

I missed signing up as well. I heard that last year it didn't sell out and they were selling it at the expo still, so I didn't feel the need to rush. I wanted to make sure we were going to make it to our final payment date of our cruise because we needed to confirm we could get all the time off we needed from work. Now I am pretty heartbroken. This is our big anniversary trip and likely the one time I'll ever do Dopey and wanted to complete it with the CCC. Crossing my fingers for something magical to happen but not holding my breath.

That is great news it worked out for you! :thumbsup2 Best of luck to you! It's a pretty medal!

We did it last year, and it sold out in minutes. You probably know this already, but most of the really popular races, not just Run Disney ones, sell out right away.

I understand the disappointment.

We did it in 2016 and didn't register until mid September, 2015 so I'm surprised to hear how fast it sold out last year. I thought that was one of those things that didn't go so quickly.

It's funny, but when we asked RunDisney and Active.com, neither were willing to tell us what the race cap number was. It makes me wonder if they kept the race really small, favoring the regular 5k fun run later.

That wasn’t our experience. The paid one was far bigger than most free island runs.

But they don’t give that sort of number out.
