They do ask that you register prior at guest services and I was given a ticket, though in disney (not rundisney though) fashion, they will let you sign up that morning. Depending on the ship and itinerary, numbers vary. The Eastern Carribbean doesn't arrive until later in the morning, so numbers are reduced. Less people on the Classics mean less runners. I think there were maybe 100 - 150 last March on my Wonder cruise. Hoping for the same on the Fantasy in two weeks.
I was on the classic, and registered the day I boarded but that morning they just had a lot of people show up I guess - Fathoms was completely packed.
