Disney Cards from target - cautionary tale

I just started buying Disney cards using my target red card and some other target gift cards I had to get the discount. I purchased $200 in one order online and $300 in another and had them mailed to me. I ordered them back to back. The $200 order arrived on Tuesday - no problems. The $300 said it wouldn't arrive until Thursday - weird since I ordered them within minutes of each other but I didn't worry since I had tracking. Yesterday I come home and see the large white envelope in my mailbox, tear it open.......empty except for a packing slip - NO DISNEY CARDS. I admit I almost cried and I did swear out loud. I immediately called Target. I've been a customer for 15+ years and never have had a problem. 30 mins and 4 transfers later my money was refunded. BUT 2 different agents told me on the phone this has been happening a lot with Disney cards specifically. I'm not sure if its just because Disney cards get mailed a lot so the rate of it being Disney cards is higher or someone is stealing their way to Disney. But I will only be purchasing them in store from now on.

At least your envelope showed up...mine did not. That one was fun to resolve. However, the Target reps were very good about it, so I didn't have an issue about reordering.

That's one of my fears that keep me buying the gift cards in store. I just have to not browse and buy more than just the gift cards.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I had a whole $300 order go astray. My money was eventually refunded onto another gift card. I wonder why you have sworn off buying online? The responded to you appropriately and refunded you promptly.

For me the extra 5% savings is worth the possibility of things not going 100% the way I expected. I've purchased thousands of dollars worth of cards in the last year. I'm happy with the extra $50 in savings per thousand by going online to order my cards.

Please check the balances on your cards as soon as you get them. I got $800 worth of Disney cards from Target and none were activated.
It took hours of phone calls to get them fixed. No one at Target knew anything about Disney cards, I would say to open the envelopes and call the balance line asap

Well I will say that I have purchased about $1000 worth of cards and have had no problems so far.

I wonder if it has to do with you $ amount. I just ordered two $50 (about a month apart) with no problem. I was worried about not getting them too. Then I realized that they were basically free from my points on swagbucks. So I wouldn't really be out anything if they were lost except a bit of my time. That helped me get over the fear of ordering them online :)

With the correct number, they are very quick about getting them activated. 18005443875. This is Target Giftcard Service. They only are there normal business hours FYI.

I've made a number of orders over the past few months and had no trouble at all. And then... I placed an order for $450 worth of cards at once after getting discounted Target GCs at Raise and Giftcard Zen. I waited about a 10 days and even though there was a tracking number, it wasn't even showing that it had been mailed yet. I called and it took a while but eventually was told to give it one more week. They were behind in filling orders. I knew that wasn't really the case, but okay. They sent me a $10 GC for my trouble. Okay. I still had plenty of time before my payment was due so I waited. A week later, still nothing. So I called back and again it took a little while. But the end result this time was they cancelled my order and refunded my money. AND sent me another $50 gift card for my trouble!!! So although it was a bit of a hassle, the extra $60 made it worthwhile!

I've ordered over $3000 in cards the past 2 months, no problems, all of them were active. Each order did take over a week to receive.

Robin I'm just worried if it happens again target may think I'm up to something and not refund my money. The package arrived with tracking so other than my word I had nothing to prove it. So for me it's not worth saving $50 if I could be out $300. Too much stress :)

I started selecting the option to require a signature upon delivery. I now receive all of my gift cards from Target via UPS and I (or an adult at my house) MUST sign for them or they will try again the next day. In fact, I was scheduled to receive the cards on Wednesday, along with 60# of dog food. I knew that nobody would be home to sign for it but I was kind of hoping they would just tuck it in with the dog food. Nope....when I got home, the dog food was sitting on my porch and there was a note that said they would try again tomorrow with the other delivery. Well, when the driver came by Thursday, I wasn't home (again) so I figured that DH would just sign for it on Friday. Lo and behold, I was out mowing my lawn and the UPS guy pulled up. He told me that he'd stopped by earlier but decided to check one more time on his way out. I told him that it really wasn't too big of a deal for me and I was OK with him leaving it in between my doors, but he told me that when I request a signature, then Target REQUIRES a signature and he CANNOT leave it without facing disciplinary action. So, I would suggest checking the box that says "require signature upon delivery". It is in the same area, on the same page as "pay with a Target gift card". There is no additional charge.

When you are ordering from a mobile device do you see this option? I haven't been able to find it but would be very happy to require a signature!

when my next batch arrives I will have paid $1k of my trip this way, and despite a little effort and worry, it's saving us enough to make it worth it!

I just went through the mobile site and I couldn't find an option to require a signature. I have only ordered e-cards (Starbucks) from my mobile app so I'd never looked for it.

I tried to order giftcards today and they were adding 8.8% sales tax to the order, so the 5%REDCARD discount didn't matter. I didn't order....Anyone else being charged tax? (I reviewed old orders to confirm that these giftcards previously had not been taxed.:sad2:)

As a note, if you choose Require a Signature but aren't sure if you're going to be home, you can have UPS deliver to your nearest UPS store - that way you can pick the package up on your schedule. Just redirect the package on the UPS site.

Thanks!. I called customer service yesterday and they credited back the difference, but I wanted to know if this was something new, as the itunes cards were not being taxed. They put the notes in to rectify it as well.

No problems here with about $800 in cards ordered over the past couple months. 100% were activated when they arrived and none stolen.
