Disney Agrees to Buy Lucasfilm in Cash-and-Stock Deal Worth $4 Billion (Story developing) CNBC

I just heard this on CNBC and it's on the website - no story yet.

INTERESTING...............

roughtly 4 Billion dollars, 50% paid in cash up front. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by George Lucas. Now that's a nice paycheck.

I'm curious to see what will happen now that he will be more hands off. I love what he's done with the franchise over the years, but sometimes I just kind of think people don't want to tell him NO when he comes up with an idea that later turns out not to be so good.. yes, I'm looking at you Jar Jar :rolleyes1

This is huge for Disney fans. Great move that will no doubt bring much more of this wonderful franchise into the parks. :chewy: :yoda:

There's the blog entry. Being that Avengers made about 40% of the cost of Marvel at the box office alone, seems that is Disney's strategy again. Buy LucasFilm, make a few movies, and it's all paid for without even accounting for theme park/merchandise.

Savvy move Iger. Someone is thinking about his legacy.

I don't think The Avengers made that much in _profit_...

Commence clamoring for Star Wars Land to replace Avatarland in three...two....one....

Episode 7 RELEASED in 2015? That seems pretty aggressive. I sure hope they don't rush it and put out an inferior product. :rolleyes1

Doesn't take 2 years just for the CGI?

WLL

Assuming they stick with the storyline from the canon books, they pretty much have a rough outline. I wouldn't be surprised if there was already a script in a drawer somewhere as well.

Knowing where computing power is these days I don't think the CG work takes 2 years. Didn't all of Avatar take 2 years and that was completely CG.

The deal includes 40 million shares of Disney to go to Lucas to help pay for the deal. This will get him a seat on the Board of Directors if he wants it. I agree, Avitar land is likely DEAD. THis is a much more viable property.

Oh absolutely not profit. That number is just receipts. But once you kick in blu ray/merchandising/etc, Avengers alone took out a nice chunk of the 4bil that Disney paid for Marvel. New Star Wars movies will have the same effect. Plus, they get to pay themselves to license the rides now! Fun with Accounting!

Welcome To Leia... The newest Disney Princess!! Star Wars Land at DHS?? Hmmmm...

So Star Wars Land at AK? How long till the Rancor breaks down and the motion is replaced by flashing lights?

Savvy move Iger! Lucas has been trusting Disney with his brand for many, many years. Just think of the strength of Star Wars Weekend.
