Companies don't usually buy other companies just for the heck of it. I don't see a reasoning for Apple to purchase Disney, its not quite a fit into their "realm" at this time. While Apple might have the capital, it is not quite that simple, it would most likely have to be a hostile take over and that is quite a bit more expensive than just what the company is worth. Just sounds like a lot of speculation being made by a talking head that feels throwing out mainstream company names will create news and increase ratings.....

Instead of buying Disney out, apple should partner up with Disney. Apple could help enhance places like epcot and help Disney in the technological department better than Microsoft.

There really is no "Disney" anymore. The buyout already took place years ago. It's just another publicly traded company only concerned with this quarters numbers.

In actuality a complete / controlling buyout by someone like Jobs could be very good for us, the consumer ... Those of us who like innovation and quality vs. whatever it is we're getting from Disney these days.

Jobs has the money, we know he is innovative and creative, even in this realm, look at what he did with PIXAR.

Yeah, I'd take Setvie over MBA Bob anyday.:thumbsup2

Steve Jobs has revolutionized a number of industries:
Computers, software, consumer electronics, music, movies, retail, telephony. Of course an Apple buyout would be more than just selling new computers to the reservations department.

Exactly, I could see more of a Disney/Apple partnership than an actual buyout. If a company is not on the market, it is very costly, both revenue and public perception to try a buyout, to both companies involved. Disney is a profitable business and would definitely attempt to block any type of buyout.

Steve Jobs (technically) already owns Disney - he's the largest shareholder. Besides, I thought that Disney has a market value of about $60 billion, Apple has $54 billion to spend. It would seem more likely and a more appropriate fit for them to buy Sony or EA - companies with tech products. I think that the media is just throwing Disney's name in because of their relationship with Jobs.:hippie:

You can't look at it this way. A previous poster spelled it out correctly....apples market value is far more than disneys. A purchase of Disney doesn't have to be done with all cash. It can be done with stock or cash plus stock....a stock that carries a very high value....

Apple has MORE than enough equity and working capital to pick up Disney....

I think the better question is whether or not Disney adds value to apple...and whether purchasing Disney makes sense for apples goals and objectives....

No chance. Job's would only do it for personal reasons and Disney won't fight it if the price is right and as I said before, look for Iger to attempt this prior to his departure (Eisner almost did it) it means a HUGE payday for the big cheese.

I agree with your post completely....disney and apple are already scratching each others backs in bed due because steve jobs is the brain of both...

And a quality guy (nobody can dispute that Apple has always been quality first) in charge of disney completely (especially if it were private) would be a very advantageous setup to us...the consumer

But...and here's the thing...Jobs is - in fact - dying.

Advanced pancreatic cancer that has been held off for along time - relatively speaking - by non-FDA treatment regimens outside of the US (where science and health is often allowed to be the main reason still...not just money as it is here).
But...he still is in fact dying...and that means that all this talk is really a pipedream.
