Disney Buses

We will be spending the morning at EPCOT and then back to the Poly for rest and a swim. Our ADR for BOMA is at 5:30 so we would need to leave by bus around 4:15-4:30pm or by cab at 5pm.

I would love to go to AK for the 4pm parade and then over to AKL but I don't think my kids would be up for that. THey really need their rest/swim time :dog2:

Thanks for the help. We may just play it by ear and decide that afternoon!!

Last year we stayed at the ASMo and had great bus service. Never more than a 10 minute wait. The only problem we had was trying to go from DTD to the Poly for an Ohana ADR. It took us over an hour- 25minutes for the bus then a stop/and wait at the CR and finally to the Poly pirate:

This year we are staying at the Poly!!!! But I am very worried about the buses. We were planning to take a cab from the Poly to the AKL for Boma but if it costs over 40.00 rt then that is way too much!!! Maybe we will just cancel Boma and eat at Kona!

How can we get to the AKL for dinner for less than 40.00rt or not have it take 2hours/rt by bus out of our evening just for transportation??!!

If you're staying at the Poly, just walk over to the TTC and get the AKL bus. Shouldn't be that long a wait. Or you could hop on a monorail to epcot and walk over to the AKL bus. I've heard their bus service is excellent and they should leave epcot fairly regularly.

I just came back from Disney yesterday and I have never had such horrible bus service. We had to wait 50 mins to get a bus to go downtown and we had to wait forever at the park when it closed. I was just wondering if any one else has experience this. :flower:

DTD Disney busses can sometimes be few and far between, depending on time of day. And of course, leaving the parks at closing time is never an ideal time to catch a quick ride back to the resort. But take heart... usually the buses are pretty good and not all that horrible. We all have transportation stories we could tell you, but they are the exception and not the rule. That probably doesn't help when you've waited "forever" for a bus, but next trip your transportation will, in all likelihood, be fine.

Going from Poly to AKL is one of the easier resort to resort options I would imagine.

Here are your choices:

1 - you can hop on the boat to MK, then get on the AKL bus

2 - you can walk to TTC and get on the AKL bus (I'm not actually sure they still do this)

3 - you can get on the monorail to MK then get on the AKL bus

All these options end with riding the AKL bus. That is NOT a problem, because the AKL buses service only AKL.

Now, none of these options get you back to Poly of course. If MK is still open then a bus from AKL will still be going to MK and you can get on the bus or monorail back to Poly. If MK is closed, then get the cab and you will only have to pay one way.

As far as I know, Resort buses no longer run from the TTC. Disney changed that years ago - They want to use DTD as the Transportation Hub now instead of TTC. IMHO, it's against the whole point of having a TTC, but I think Disney hopes you'll do some shopping while at DTD to change buses. I wish they'd go back to the old TTC days tho, it was much easier & more efficient.

Fastest way to AKL from the Poly is bus to AK, then bus to AKL or monorail to MK then bus to AKL. Coming home, the suggestion of bus to Epcot & then the monorail to TTC or bus to MK & monorail to Poly.

I always say you get what you pay for. I have stayed @ both the cheap resort all the way through to the deluxe, and the transportation has improved as you go up the resort ladder. Cheap resorts are further away from the parks therefore making longer trips there and longer trips back. Also, you have to assume that a larger majority of people are staying at value resorts, and more people mean longer lines and longer wait times. If you want to save time, just get in your car and drive it. With your parking pass for the resort, you don't have to pay to park @ the parks. Maybe next time you might consider paying a little more $$ for a moderate resort if you don't want to have for longer bus waits.

Are you kidding?

Have you ever tried waiting on a bus to MGM or DTD from Contemporary or Poly?

While deluxes have nicer boat and monorail transportation, the bus service is no comparison to that at values.

I agree with the POR comment, we stayed there 2 weeks ago, the buses were very regular going to the parks, but coming home was a different story. POR always seemed to have the longest line and the least buses.

It's all relative!!! When we were at POR in June, I thought the lines were pretty long. The wait for buses wasn't too bad since they came frequently. But, when we were at Pop several weeks ago...I thought Pop had the longest lines!! I would have given blood to be in the POR lines!!!

As far as 'you get what you pay for' goes...yes, there most certainly are more people in the value resorts. But, it is in the value resorts that I have found my best transportation experiences!!! someone else mentioned the Polynesian bus to MGM...you mean there actually is one that is supposed to show up routinely?? We waited almost an hour for one in '03. And going to AK wasn't much better. I think the moderates have pretty decent bus sytems but the values, so far, IMHO, have the best all around deal.
YC/BC is no bargain let me tell you. We stayed at BCV in June and the waits were much longer than at Pop. When we have stayed at BWV, the wait isn't great but it is shorter than the waits we had at BC. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the buses at the various resorts.
