Do you have to have a hopper pass to use the Disney Bus? Do they check your ticket?

You don't have to have a hopper or any other type of park pass to ride the bus. They don't ask for any type of ID to ride the bus.

Disney transportation is free to everyone. No ticket is required. :)

So if we stay of property I can drop the kids off at AKL and they can take the buses to the parks with no problem??

I believe, technically, you must be staying "on property" to use the WDW bus system, since the buses only run between the parks (and DTD) and the resorts. It is true that they rarely ask for a resort key but, no other attraction ticket is needed.

In all the times that I have gone to Disney for the day(since 1999) and parked at AKL and rode the buses to a park,I have never been asked to show a resort key card.

Why do you want to drop the kids at AKL to get the bus to the parks? They have drop off areas, when you get to the parking area just let them know that you're just dropping off, you wont be charged a parking fee and can leave the kids at the park instead of having to worry about them taking transportation from the resort to the park.

Almost. If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty technicalities of it, a Park Hopper pass also grants you the right to use Disney Transportation. But since the only places you can go are on Disney property (where, presumably, you'll be spending your money) Disney really doesn't restrict the use of its transportation. :)

It is the closest resort to the house I have rented. It has a private pool and spa, so I don't really want to go to the parks. Dropping them at other parks or hotels would just be farther away.

Can I ask why you park at AKL?

When I end up at Boma at the end of the day,I valet park at AKL and ride the buses to whatever park I want to go to. I have DDE plus a handicapped sticker,so valet parking is free for me.

It is wrong for non resort guests to park in resort parking lots except for 3 hours to dine at a resort restaurant. People that do use resort parking to go to the parks, especially at places like Boardwalk where there are limited Handicap stops, force resort guests to park elsewhere.
