Is there such a thing??

Today my DH asked if I thought I would experience Disney Burnout. I said absolutly not and he said the same but we are wondering if it happens. We have only been DVC members since Oct 2008 so I guess I would have to ask all the "senior" members if it has ever happened.

We just got back fro 6 days at Pop (40% off pincode), currently planning our Nov/Dec trip and decided we would go again in March (trying to get in 3 trips on our AP). Currently I am equally excited about all the trips and thankful I am able to do it.

We just got back and I asked my DD's the same question. They are still excited about every trip, and still crying on the ME bus back to the airport. So for my opinion, yes the magic is still there, even after our 6th visit, and we are planning on 1 or 2 more in the next 12 months.

For people who look at the Disney experience as being a theme park one, yes, I believe it's entirely possible to get burnt out.

However, from what I've seen, most DVCers don't use their DVC strictly as a location to launch off from to hit rides. Disney means more to us than that... it's more like a retreat.

Comparing trip reports from DVC'rs and nonDVC'rs, many of the non-DVC trip reports entail their trip with a rush-rush, keep an eye on the clock message through out it.. perhaps lessening up toward the end as they run out of steam. The relaxation is almost missing, replaced instead with "it was nice to sit down" or "We all fell sound asleep when our heads hit the pillows". These folk need a vacation from their vacation when they get home.

DVC reports on the other hand seek out, and detail, the little pieces of magic either old favorites or new finds. DVC'rs know a day walking the boardwalk, sitting under a shaded tree listening to the music, watching the birds sneak fries from a surprised toddler & talking with a store clerk from another country or from just around the local area can be just as or more fulfilling as trekking through the parks to hit every ride & building up a nice blister to take home as souvenir.

With so many things to do (or not) each trip can be as different as you choose to make it. Burn out is not in my future.

We have been members since 1992 and have never experienced Disney Burnout. We definitly have a more relaxed outlook to the parks knowing that hey if we miss it an attraction this year we"ll see it next year. Thankfully my DH and 3 kids all feel the same way. There is not that rushed feel that we have to squeeze every possible thing into that one trip, cause we know we will be back soon.

As you go to disney more you will evolve. You start out going crazy at the parks. Running around the parks like mad people. After a few trips you relax and start sleeping late. You just stroll though the parks at a more relaxed pace. Fine dinning becomes more the norm. Its a great ride enjoy it.

I don't think so, I was going to disney twice a year long before I bought DVC. There is always something new when I go there and there is so much variety. I just got back from Disneyland in California and am looking forward to when I go to to the World in August. I find the resorts very relaxing and there are days I don't even go to the parks, just sleep in and enjoy the pool and the resort.

My friends tell me I have a Disney "problem" I tell them it is my escape from reality. I have a very stressful job WDW just lets me relax and unwind. After August I have trip in October and I am currently eagerly planning when I will be able to go next year.

This year is the 30th anniversary of my first trip to Walt Disney World as a 14 year old. I now have 3 daughters (19, 14 & 14) who have averaged a visit every year of their lives. We became DVC members in 2007 and managed to visit 3 times last year and this year will probably be twice. I find more to love every single time. :lovestruc

That is how we are trying to approach it now as well. We vacation at our children pace (slow and frequent rest breaks) and figure anything we miss we will see next time. I know as our DDs grow our vacations will change and be a good time to just take a boat ride or play games in the room.

Didn't think burnout was possible!!!:thumbsup2

HI All, gonna piggyback this a bit and ask if you or your kids are jaded by their Disney trips. We have only taken two thus far. One as non members at the All Star Music in late 07 then recently at SSR in January. Wow did my kids whine! Yes it was FREEZING but they *****ed about everything. I must preface this by saying they are not usually like this, they are garden variety and do all have their issues but they don't generally ***** and moan, especially on vacation. Do some of you find the WDW tends to bring out the worst in your kids?

We are not taking another WDW trip until 2011, these kids need a break.....

yes a couple of times - mostly because the CM's at the park were in a bad mood.

so stopped going to the parks - and once even cancelled a DVC trip. so yes it can happen. but then you go back to do other things. go boating, go visit FW, DD, do tours, biking, swimming, get a massage - just do things differently and your love of Disney will come back.

really get burn out on trips to the beach - have had it generally in about 3 days - so the next 4 days can be hard.

I don't know the ages of your kids but mine are 5 and 2 and they cried when we left for home this last time and are contributing to plans for next trip. They did seem to whine a bit about the heat (June is certainly not my favorite!) but they just wanted to go back "home" and swim which we did and all was good. I am going to plan a few trips with no parks because there is so many other things to do.

I can get burned out once in a while due to crowds and dealing with rude people in the parks. Then we take a break and usually after 6 months or so I get the itch to plan another trip. It never lasts long. That being said we do other trips throughout the year too, camping at Salt Point, a cottage in Little River, San Diego, Monterey and last year we exchanged out to Kauai.

Our kids are grown and married, but during the teen years our son was not too thrilled to go on Disney trips, even now every few years is fine with him. Now our daughter is always up for a Disney trip.

This is my third attempt to answer....it seems my answer just gets too long-winded. Quite frankly, no. DH and I love to go alone, with the DGC and other family members, and also with frineds. Time/vacation constraints and money limit us, not the desire to go.

We were there last week. I've read trip reports from people who just won't go in June again, but we were OK...more than OK...it was one of our nicest trips. DH was picked up by ME at 8AM on Friday. I took an hour and a half to go to Jambo's pool and whirlpool. It was mostly empty at that time of day, and it was super relaxing and as perfect as it could be for me without DH.

After checking out, I did go to AK...had some fun there, FOLK is something I can see over and over...I get teary over "Can you Feel the Love?" and "Circle of Life" DH doesn't need to see that!

This was my third trip this calendar year....15 nights for me so far at WDW, 3 on DCL and I'm still looking forward to the September and December trips. (January too...that's the next one with DFamily!) DH and I waited in line for probably 40 minutes for the photo op with the UP characters. It was worth it for me. Also, we did the animation drawing....a Goofy...as they say, each adds our own goofiness to his character!

We do other things...we have a Cape May family vacation, a trip to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountain NP as well as a 13 night European cruise/vacation, but Disney has something that pulls us back, makes us relax and enjoy ourselves like nothing else can.

The CM's we met were very nice, very helpful and very informative. I've been to at least 3 of the night "Cultural Safaris" at Jambo with a CM from South Africa. Each has added something new to my understanding of that country. This one was 11 when Nelson Mandela was released from prison. What great stories she has to share about her country.

I hope you continue to enjoy your DVC/WDW trips as well!!!

Have to admit experienced a bit of burnout back in '03-'04. DW and I were going 3-4 times that year and mostly went and found ourselves doing same attractions and restaurants each time.

Since then, have had our DD and DS and bought DVC, so it's just gotten better and better every time with our kids--they have brought so much to our trips seeing things for the first time!

On our last trip to WDW, DH and I stayed at the BWV and spent much of the time relaxing at the resort. That's one of the beauties of DVC...you don't have to feel the need to be a park commando person!

With both of our children getting married this year, I'm sure grandchildren will be coming in the next few years, so that will put a new, fresh perspective on WDW. We're looking forward to seeing Disney through the eyes of little ones! :cloud9: Our DD and DS were 8 and 11 on their first DL trip, so were a bit older.

I have been a member since 2005 and have been doing solo trips the last 2 yrs because my son had to work and go to school and couldn't get away. We are going together in Dec and although he is 19 he is very excited all over again. He and I will enjoy this for yrs to come. :thumbsup2

We have been memebers since 2001. We go at least 2 x's per year. DD went for the first time when she was was 4 yrs old and we have been going ever since. We try to do different things each time we go- backstage tours. My daughter decided to have a week vacation at WDW with her 2 best friends for her "almost 18th birthday" in rwo weeks and she is soooo excited! She chose WDW over a big bash here at home. We are also going to HH this July and we all feel the same way about DVC. DH and I will be going for the first time without DD this October. Even DH is excited so in our family-no burn out yet!

Honestly, being afraid of burnout is what stopped me from buying DVC for a while. It never came so I finally bought in. However, I do try to mix my trips up and appreciate the other Orlando attractions. For instance my next trip includes Universal and Seaworld. Next one might include a trip over to Tampa to see BG. Also sharing the Wold iwth different family members allow each trip to be unigue and a different perspective.

I experienced slight Disney burnout last year. We had been to WDW probably 3 times a year for 5 years straight. In August we went down and were caught up in one of the tropical storms. Due to flight cancellations, we had to stay at WDW 2 extra nights, which should have made me ecstatic, but it didn't. Maybe it was the stress and the weather, but I couldn't wait to get home. Usually I start planning the next trip on the plane ride home, but this time I wasn't interested.

However this past winter I started getting that "feeling" again and lo, and behold, I decided to make a ressie. We are trying BLT in October...it will be 14 months between trips which is a long time for us, and I am hoping for a bit more down time than in past visits. We have been trending towards a more laid back approach for the last several years, but I am REALLY going to work on this for the upcoming trip! We also decided to try a 3 night cruise at the end of the visit so we have something new to look forward to!

Kind of, we go every 12-18 months, seems odd that I had nothing planned, had 75 banked points, just used those for a quick trip to Vero. will have about 290 points to bank this year?? Very odd!! But kids are busy, sports, husband is self emplyed, harder to get away with this wonderful economy we are in. So not sure if it's a burnout, or just no time. I'm thinking a beach cottage sometime would be great, so those extra points may come in handy!! Or a cruise with the kids, idk.
