Disney plans to build a gated community of million dollar vacation homes in the same area where the new Four Seasons resort will be, see:

Of course, all of us will be lining to buy into that one.

What this looks like is that Four Seasons has modified its orginal plans and given back land to Disney because I believe Four Seasons was supposed to construct homes/condos in the same area that would have been sold as seasonal timeshares.

Since this isn't DVC related, I need to move it to the Rumors and News forum.

It will be interesting to see if the project actually breaks ground. It wouldn't be the first time Disney announces something, then backs away if the market isn't there.

If it is built, it will also likely be de-annexed from Disney (i fit hasn't been already because of Four Seasons) and become an independent housing area, like Celebration.

this was announced a couple of years ago, and they have been working on the entrance:

If you go to the gallery and look at the first photo, you should see the entrance area, which is being built over by PO-R.

Well, I don't think this is what Walt had in mind as his Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow!!!

I'll add one of these homes to my list of "what to buy if I ever win the lottery"...

Expensive Prototype Community of Tomorrow is more like it.

If this is located near Port Orleans then we saw the entrance while on the bus in May. I asked the driver what resort it was and he said it was a new High End resort.

Wouldn't be caught dead living in a 1 million dollar house when the neighbor's costs 8 million.
Imagine what they'd be saying---

Maybe this is where they'll move Mickey's & Minnie's homes with the ending of Toontown ;)

LOL!

From reading more details, however, there are three "types" of homes, each clustered in their own sub-development. 1/4 acre villa style, 1/2 acre family homes, and 3/4 acre estate homes. I imagine the price range within each section is a bit narrower.

As long as it isn't moved to the Budget Board:rotfl:

Really, I just don't think Walt would have liked this idea at all!! :confused3

LOL. Darlin' Walt would have loved the idea. For some unknown reason this urban myth of Walt not liking wealth has really taken off.

Disney was a genuis who wanted to leave his mark on the world but he loved luxury just like the next guy.

This is a great biography of Walt. Shining armor and warts.

Yes, I've read it. And just about everything else ever written about him. Yes, Walt was rich & enjoyed it. But he never indulged himself to the extent he could have. He poured much of his profit back into the company time & time again.

Anyway, I was referring more to the use of the land he purchased originally for WDW & wanted dedicated to its future expansion. Enclaves & estates for the rich & famous were NOT part of his original dream. If it were, he'd have built them (or planned them) right from the beginning. The closest he came was helping to design the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow which hoped to improve housing, transportation & leisure for the American community of the future. The EPCOT we all know today (great as it is) is nowhere near what he envisioned, but sadly, after his death, it was what the new management team decided to settle for.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, I guess. :) :upsidedow

The man had his own train in his back yard for pete's sake. I am just saying. That seems a little indulgent to me. :)

As for the new homes, I have to admit it is a little disappointing. Not because they are for the uber rich but just because it sort seems out of place I guess.

The man had enough money at points in his career to buy an entire railroad but he settled for a mock-up mini-version in his backyard & instead spent the big bucks on his films &TV shows & theme parks...the point is he NEVER lived the lifestyle of the very rich & famous (as well he could have & certainly deserved to as well). And he certainly wanted the great amount of land he purchased near Orlando to be used to better purpose for his many future guests.

Having said that, I don't begrudge ANYONE who can afford the uber-life! But I just don't like seeing more & more of the WDW land being so ill-used.
