Disney Bricks at Magic Kingdom???

we have one too!!! over by the monorail stations about 4 from a tree sometimes when we go the area is roped off for security reasons and we have to ask a security type person if we can go see our brick. If they ever decide to take them up I'd love to have it in my yard and would pay the shipping to get it here...or better yet make the trip to pick it up (it would be just awful to have to go all the way to WDW better ride a few rides while we're there!!) Wish they were doing something like it again dd wasn't on the brick as we purchased it in 1994 or 95 and she's only 8...and I also remember them at about 100 bucks

Ours is to the left of the MK between the monorail station and the GF just before a small beach area. It's hard to find (no topiaries to help ;) ) and we've always had to ask for directions! I hope they don't give that service up before the bricks come up! I can't remember when we got ours but we lived in another State at the time which was over 11 yrs ago!

We have a brick right at the enterance to the Poly Luau. Lots of sand there weathering the names and dates off the brick. I don't see why they would take them up that would cost them money and we paid for that walk. But they will probably take them up and resell something else to take its place. Going to Kona to eat in June I will have to see what kind of shape it is in.

We got ours on our Honeymoon in June 1998, its located at the TTC near the left....we can never find it quickly.....but Guest Services can look up the bricks and give you the location code (we had to do that the first year we went back 6 years later)

Do you mean guest services at the park? Or can I call now to get the directions in advance? Who would I call? We went in October and tried to find the brick. It is on the walkway from MK to GF. We bought it in 1996 on our honeymoon. I was so sad when I couldn't find it and it was so hot that day, we couldn't look anymore. I would love to be more prepared when we return this October.
Any info would be great!

We bought one in 1994 and it is located right in front of the Magic Kingdom. It takes us a while to find it but we always are able to. We also purchased a lucite copy of the stone - I keep it in my china cabinet. My mother and sister also have stones. They are located close to mine in front of the Magic Kingdom.

I know Guest Relations outside the Magic Kingdom can tell you the location. I think you can call and leave a message with the Walk Around The World number and they will get back to you at some point - I don't have the number handy.

You CAN get your brick replaced for a fee, but that's usually because you need to change (or erase in some cases) a name. I think the fee is $100, and I don't know if they'll do it because its worn.

They DID for a brief time start selling bricks again last year to fill in some blanks. However, there was quite an overwhelming response and it shut down very abruptly. It seemed as if someone above in management nixed the program, and a lot of people who got charged were later told that they would not get a brick - but I think in the end everyone who at least had been charged did get them. We got one of them (having not gotten one before).

When I finally went to go find my brick, it was a bit of an adventure. I was TOLD it was by the Luau, but it turns out that the location ID (the first three characters on the brick) I had didn't really exist. Walked all the way to the GF and back, and went all around looking to see if there were other walkways. I had to go to Guest Relations, and they gave me a better location to look, and finally found it.

I think we may be very unique, in having the only brick at WDW that's upside down :upsidedow compared to all the others around it.

OK, it was a few years since we had done it so we are trying to remember. I know that we started at Guest Relations at MK, but my wife thinks we might have been referred to the TTC (I think she is wrong and is just confused that was where the brick was :rotfl2: ). I am not sure if they had to make a call or whatever. But they have a code on them like H-17 that give the location. We were worried, because they had said that some of the bricks had been removed because of construction and stuff....but it hadn't been 10 years, so I guess maybe they just relocated some.

When we got ours, we also bought the acrylic mini brick to take home.

We bought ours on our honeymoon in 1994 - it was there a couple of years ago when we looked but ours in on the pathway so it doesn't get much useage. We also got a wooden copy & I think keychain or lucite copy. It was really nice. I wish they would bring it back - they could do so much with this program! I would buyone for each of my girls!

What happens if the brick is damaged? Would they replace it a copy of yours or would they replace it with something else?

They have replaced damaged bricks with a new copy of the one that was damaged.

Good deal ... I think I will have to get one.

edit - OR not, just read the start of the thread they dont sell them any longer. hmmmm oh well.

My wife and I bought ours on our honeymoon in 1997. We have visited the brick EVERY trip, and when we started having kids we make a point of taking a picture of them at our brick. I have posted some of the pictures in the Now and Then thread floating around this board.

Here's a link to the Now and Then thread in case anyone's interested...

We have a family brick at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, and take a picture each year of our boys with the brick. It's fun having a picture from the same spot over time.

Don't get your hopes up too high...there was a rumor that they may reopen the fill-in program, but it was only a rumor.

As for damaged bricks, I would expect that they'd replace it if it was damaged at least to become a walking hazard. Simply worn bricks are not replaced unless the owners want to pay $100 for a replacement.

I seem to recall in the paperwork that Disney had only "guaranteed" (and I think there were a number of out clauses) them for 10 years, so if it was older than that they could replace it with a blank if needed I guess. I don't know if they've ever done that though.

Our brick is in the MK Tram load/unload area.

It gets a LOT of foot and stroller traffic.

No signs of wear yet.

That's the weird part. Some bricks you'd expect to wear don't seem to, but others do. Could be different weathering patterns, different batches of brick, whatever.

Yep. Sounds right.

In the first ten years, they would have replaced it with an identical brick. I suspect that going forward they might be replaced with plain bricks.

I inquired about the bricks a couple of months ago and a gentleman that I spoke with told me that they were looking into selling them again but he didn't have a date or price. He took my name and contact info and put me on a list so if they do start selling them again I should be contacted.

Be careful what you ask for. ;)

When they started selling them again about a year or so ago, they created a huge MESS due to very limited availability and equally limited and poor communication with those who tried to buy the bricks.

These new brick sales lasted only for a month or two and the bricks cost $300-$400 each  during that time.

Many hopeful buyers at that time were left hanging for weeks without any word on whether their brick orders had been accepted for placement.

-----------------

Some history-

When first announced in the 1990's- and continued throughout the original "program"- WDW stated that the bricks were to be a part of a walkway where guests could stroll "completely around the Seven Seas Lagoon." That info was even a part of the monorail spiel for years.

But even back then, it was apparent that if a continuous walkway around the lake was not physically impossible, it was certainly fiscally impractical.

On the "path" between the Grand Floridian and MK, there is a much used "inlet" of water which is where the "Electrical Water Pageant" barges are stored. That would require a new bridge to be constructed and that bridge would either have to be an expensive "drawbridge" (I know they CAN do that, there's one on the WS Lagoon in Epcot, near China and "Africa") to allow the use by the EWP barges and possibly other higher profile watercraft, or simply find another waterway area to store those barges, etc.

But that side of the "loop's" problems pale by comparison to the MK-to-TTC section of the walkway.
It would require a wide, safe foot-traffic lane that runs through the same "under-the-water bridge underpass" portal near the front of Contemporary.
Back before MGM and several new resorts were built far removed from the monorail lines (and necessitating the operation of MANY new bus routes), save for those guests who drove to the CR, this ugly, narrow passage, with its steeply-inclined approaches and many exposed pipes and conduits, was never seen by most guests... UNTIL WDW decided (wisely) to put the resort bus stops for MK over AT the MK front gates (and not at TTC).
After that decision, the idea of threading a guest walkway though this too-small and now VERY BUSY underpass was simply not feasible.

So now, the bricks that were purchased back when the "Walkway Around the World" project was still a "go" are still THERE (they ARE bricks, and in Florida's seldom-deep-frozen climate, they should last a very long time), and I don't foresee a need to remove them or, since the promised "walkway loop" is abandoned, charge anyone a fee to "renew" them when they "dropped the ball" on the promised project.
