Disney Breaks Ground on Shanghai Disney Resort

While I'm excited to add yet another Disney trip to my bucket list, lol....I couldn't help but think that there are certainly other parts of the World where this long term project would have been better placed.

Yes, the USA has two parks in it's country....but between one Chinese (Hong Kong) and one Japanese (Tokyo) park there is quite a bit of concentration there already. While the distances are a bit futher apart (though not by much) it almost feels like if they were adding another park somewhere in the MidWest of USA....I'm all for more parks anywhere, of course, but seems a bit close together.

I'd have rather seen one in Latin America, Australia or Africa to spead it out a bit more around the Globe. Of course, what do I know....there have been rumors of Austalia for years, so maybe it's just not at the announcement point yet.

Yes, I do realize that a large part of this deal was because of the financial help the Chinese government is giving....Disney has always been pretty smart in not spending all it's own money on these projects, lol. But still...couldn't they space them out a bit more around the world.

So....anyone else calendering April 2015 for booking their 2016 Shanghai trip? :rotfl::banana::rotfl2::cool1:

This should be really awesome!
I'm really interested to see how they incorporate the Chinese influence.

We were in China a little over a year ago, and I have seen the area where this park is being built, and it is an exciting and vibrant area. If my health permits at the time (getting a little older now), I will definitely be going when it opens. The trip over there from the East Coast is a long one (13.5 hours out of JFK), but I so want to go back to China.

Back to say, they announced this on Good Morning America this morning, and the one thing I remember is that Iger said the castle would be the biggest one yet.

The Chinese and Japanese have a long history of distaste for each other so there are other issues in play here than just distance. And Asians in general seem to connect with Disney in a huge way. Not sure how true that is of other parts of the world.

Hey don't laugh, if things are meant to be, I will definitely be planning a trip. Knowing how quickly the Chinese get things done/built, I would not expect the kinds of delays we often see here in the good ole USA. When they start a construction project, it gets done quickly, as long as the money holds out.

I'm not sure why Disney isn't spending money fixing certain things at the US parks, like the PeopleMover at DLR, but they are spending all this money building parks in China.

Disney is not allowed to pay own 100% why would it want to pay 100%. The same is true in Tokyo when TDL was built. Disney wasn't allowed to go alone on the project.

It's quite literal that China is not giving money, it is taking ownership. There are rules in lots of countries limiting foriegn investment.

Ok...fine point, but the fact is that Disney is getting a LARGE amount of revenue potential without having to invest nearly as much as it would elsewhere. I'd take that kind of business deal anyday.

The Castle will be interesting. It is going to house a restaurant and an attraction. Plus it appears that it is being built up on a hill. I surely like how we can walk through ours from the Hub to Fantasyland which may not happen with thiers.
