That's fine. And you can pose for photos. I do. No one mistakes me for a cm. They love it when you show off your colors. I get stopped by them all the time to take photos of me.

I'm the least qualified person to answer this but it's when you dress in outfits that are subtly like a character or have subtle accents that resemble a charachter. More like an outfit influenced by a character, but not as far as being a costume.

I have to say I thought the thing was kind of silly for awhile, but when we were there a few weeks ago DW and I kept seeing some of the most creative outfits and it really made us take notice. We even said to ourselves "that'd be a fun way to do Disney in a different way." Not saying I'll be Disney Bounding on my next trip, but it's fun/interesting to see what some people do!

It's where you take every day clothing and match it up to a character, any character. Including accessories. What's great about it is you pack pieces that can go with other outfits thus bringing less. Here's a link to get you started:

EDIT: I just checked out the link - how cool! I love it! You can dress like a character without being too elaborate. I would think it would be fun to guess who they are!
