This means that Universal Studios will probably have to change the names and themes of there most popular rides!!! 4 billion sounds like alot of money, but when you figure they get all the royalties to all of the old Marvel movies(Spiderman, The Hulk, XMen, etc), plus the rights to continue the already successful continuance of the ongoing stories that always do well at the box office along with them incorporating this into the amusement parks...Disney will make that money back ion about 30 seconds, and have a brand new avenue of story telling to do, which in my opin ion...they really needed anyway. Im pretty excited to see where this goes, Im trusting Disney to make this INCREDIBLY AMAZING, because if theres only one thing I like as much as Disney...its Marvel comic characters!:thumbsup2

This actually was reported in the news several weeks ago and is not 'new' news. :sad1:

I would do some Google research for the real news, that 'other' theme park retains all rights to the names and artwork on the current rides until such time the ride is closed or changed. This applies at least to the East side of the Mississippi, the jury is still out on the West Coast park.

Disney does get to make movies etc with these characters and can feel free to work them into their theme parks as live characters, but not sure how this fits into the Disney scheme of things yet.

There's a lot of fine print in the deal, and Universal won't have to change anything as of now. As mentioned, Universal has the exclusive rights to most of the Marvel rides east of the Mississippi in perpetuity as long as they keep them running. Disneyland may be a diffrent story, but theme parks weren't a big factor in the acquisition and we'll probably not see much in they way of characters in WDW and no rides. It was more for the licensing and character rights. Disney wants the merchandising, video games etc ...

The same thing happened with the movie rights. Fox gets to keep X-men, and Fantastic Four rights in perpetuity as long as they continue to make movies with them. Sony gets to keep Spiderman and Venom, and Ghost Rider for the same reasons. This is why you'll be seeing a solo-Venom movie as well as Ghost Rider and and a new FF movie. The movies may not even be good, but the studios will keep churning them out to retain the use, and make sure Disney can't use the character for their own flicks.
