Disney World Gets Rid Of Janet Jackson Mickey Statue

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Janet Jackson's mouse is history.

Disney has quietly gotten rid of a 6-foot statue of Mickey Mouse that was dressed like Jackson.

The 700-pound statue statue used a tight black outfit Jackson wore in 1990 after the release of her album, "Rhythm Nation 1928."

The statue was one of 75 unveiled at Disney World last fall to celebrate the 75th birthday of Mickey Mouse.

They were inspired by celebrities such as Andre Agassi, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ellen DeGeneres.

Disney spokesman Gary Foster told the Orlando Sentinel considering all the controversy it drew, they decided to replace Jackson's Mickey with a new one.

It's been replaced by a spare statue designed by an in-house Disney artist. The statues -- minus the Jackson one -- have been shipped to a convention center in Philadelphia, for investors to see at Disney's annual shareholder meeting.

Jackson has been criticized for her breast-baring Super Bowl halftime show.

I had no idea this statue existed, but I think that if a statue was dressed in a tight fitting ensemble like JJ, it's disgraceful, even before the superbowl incident. What does she have to do with the 'world' anyway?

The costume used on the statue was from her 1990 video, it was actually quite modest as was she back then. I think it was foolish of Disney to remove the statue. I hope they paid her charity --the statues are supposed to be auctioned for charity when all the viewings are done. It doesn't seem fair to penalize her charity as she did what Disney asked her to do.

Good grief - Disney have really lost it now - JMO!

Disney's Jessica Rabbit had a tight fitting ensemble!!! ;)

He wasn't, she had male dancers in the video and Mickey was dressed like them. It was just a theme - Rhythm Nation. He wasn't wearing a dress or anything like that. Then again Janet wore pants too. It was military style.

oh, the Rhythm Nation outfit...I was thinking of one of her less dressed costumes...

Those are so cute. So they aren't getting rid of it because it is offensive but because of the reference to Janet Jackson?

That is crazy. I can't believe Disney did that. I am tired of hearing about the whole Janet Jackson Superbowl topic. Let's move on to more important things, give her a break. It happened, she regrets it, now lets move on. Why isn't all this happening to Justin Timberlake too, he also participated in the event.

Thanks for the link Tori.

I don't see a problem unless they're anticipating a wardrobe malfunction of some type;)

I'm with you!

:hyper: WOW she is really bummin huh? all cause she showed off her stuff. Well, that's what you get for competing with your psycho brother for publicity.

i swear that family is crazier thane MINE!!

Wow is right. I cannot believe how the "costume malfunction" has apparently rocked the very foundation of our society.

This is such a non-issue. It truely amazes me it got the coverage it did the day following the Super Bowl, let alone weeks afterwards.

It's strange what our country makes a priority these days.

I guess I am in the minority here but I think they did the right thing by replacing her statue. I would hope though, that they kept the same charity that the proceeds from her auction would benefit. Maybe the charity didn't want her to represent them as well.

Personally I find Rosie O'Donnell's Mickey more offensive than Janet's!

What was she trying to do with hers?

I told this to Jeff who immediately said, "Why are they worried about the outfit falling off?"

Holy Moly! What an uptight society we have!

Just ridiculous!
