If this is in the wrong spot, forgive me but it seems the Budget Board is the place the upcoming movies are discussed the most. I have several questions that I can't find answers to and you all seem like the experts in this area.

Does anyone know why some Blu Rays come with Digital Copies and others do not? I have both Toy Story movies pre-ordered but they don't come with digital copies. :confused3 If there were Disney Movies to keep on my phone in case I needed a diversion for DS it would be these. When they do this do they release a separate Digital copy in itunes or Amazon?

How do I find out the schedule for what will be released when? I've totally missed out on several DVD's and am actually still replacing VHS.(Eldest DD had just about out grown them and I didn't think I'd have more little ones) So I'm all about buying the Blu Ray/DVD/Digital Copy packs. I'm particularly interested in The Lion King but of course I want them all.

Speaking of combo packs I notice the animated version of Alice will have a special DVD release but there's no hint of a Blu Ray. I'm wondering if anyone can take an educated guess that there will be one when Tim Burton's version comes out?

Of course I know these questions can't be answered 100% but a lot of you seem to know the scoop on this stuff so any help would be appreciated!

I'm wondering if anyone can take an educated guess that there will be one when Tim Burton's version comes out? I'm sure there will be a blu-ray of the new one. The old one just takes a little longer. Look how long it took them to get Snow white on a blu-ray. I'm sure it needs editing to look so good on a blu-ray.

Hope I helped.

One of the reasons they offer different versions is because consumers have different needs! Not everyone wants or needs a blu ray copy, a dvd copy and digital copy! If technology isn't really your thing and you didnt intend on switching to blu ray until you were forced to and know that blu ray players also play regular dvds- why would you run out and by the combo pack for $10 more? I wouldn't. Also I read somewhere that by including the multiple formats it appeals to different age groups within families- as far as tech savvy kids vs more traditional formats for younger kids and adults.

technology is not my thing and I don't intend on switching to blu-rays completely until I have to. I buy the new ones simply because they end up cheaper than the regular version. Saving money is my thing. I still buy lots of regular DVD's.

I can buy the Combo packs for the same or cheaper than the DVDs if I get them when they come out. I have never not once paid more then what a DVD costs. So why wouldn't I? And we still have DVD players in our house and in my truck so the DVD does get used. I'm not asking why they have different versions, I'm asking why they're not consistent in what they offer. With buying opening week and most likely coupons I'm paying the same price I'm paying for The Princess and the Frog and what I paid for UP and Monsters (actually those two I got smokin' deals on). All three of those have Blu Ray/DVD/Digital Copy all formats that will get used quite a bit in this house. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 do not. I'm just wondering why, what's the reasoning?:confused3

Pyrxtc-Thanks for your feedback. I ended up caving and buying the Lion King used from Amazon. I know they do the Vault thing to keep you coming back but geesh, I thought I was good owning everything is VHS, way back when...:rotfl2:

I saw somewhere that the Un-Anniversary copy of Alice in Wonderland was being released on 3/30/10..... I am crossing my fingers, but we borrowed it from the library.:yay:

The multi format combo packs are intended to suit multiple needs: you have a blu-ray player on the big family TV in the living room, but the kids have a small TV with a built-in DVD player in their rooms or you have a DVD system in your SUV - those won't play the bluray discs so you need the DVD for the kids but prefer the blu-ray for the full-family viewing on the big screen. The digital copy suits pretty much the same purpose as the DVD.

I will be shocked if the Toy Story packs don't have a digital copy when they are released. Seems like a no brainer.

Once blu-ray players replace DVD players in car/SUV entertainment packages and on computers (already happening) then the number of DVDs available will plummet and Blu-ray will be the standard, just as DVD took over from VHS. Blu-ray is far superior in every possible way.

Once you go Blu you never go back. :)

Re: Burton's Alice in Wonderland - Disney is wanting to push faster Bluray releases on movies and wanted only a 6 week theatrical run on AIW so they could get it out to Bluray before summer. Some theaters got mad (stealing two weeks of their normal 8 week run and wanted more money in return). Still, last I heard Disney was looking for a May or June bluray release of AIW, though that may have changed.

I'm tellin' ya there's nothing like it.:thumbsup2

Does anyone remember when they offered the VHS/DVD packs for a brief time? I skipped on those I didn't think DVDs would catch on.:lmao::lmao::lmao:

At least I hopped on the band wagon for Blu Ray/Digital copies at the right time. 60% of my Disney collection is still in VHS-lesson learned!

Actually give it a few years and blue-ray will be gone as well. They are going to start putting everything on SD cards in time. So for those that do not already have a blue-ray player look for one with an sd card slot in it that can read as well as write to sd cards.

I agree blue-ray is great except when the software for the blue-ray player is not updated and you can not play a brand new movie you just bought because of it. Just had this happen with 2012. We can not play it on our computer which is the only player we have at the moment. Different movie companies use different software for some reason instead of it being standarized. So we have to wait for a software patch to come along or buy a seperate player and hope that it will play on it. Personally until they do something about this problem I will not be buying another player. Nor will I be buying all blue-ray discs. I will buy Disney blue-rays because we have never had a problem with them playing but as for other companies I will not be buying unless I can get a combo pack cheap.

I don't know, that's an awful shaky format to invest in. SD cards can last forever or they can corrupt after one use. A DVD or Blu Ray seems much more stable/reliable. Something else will come along for sure, it always does, but I don't see SD cards being it.

I have read a few articles about it already. And they are already putting software and music on them as well as movies. Blockbuster is renting movies on SD cards already. Warner Brothers and Paramount both support this media as well.

Any media form comes with its own problems including dvd and blu-ray.

Also in the future you probably will just download the movie direct to your sd card or hard drive from the internet rather than having to go to a store to buy it. The same way as we are already doing with music.

Im sure you have a newer Blu-ray player than we do. We have the SuperBLU which is the player that can play HD DVDs and BluRays. We got it before they knew which format they were going to keep. We have had to update ours once (we have a ton of newer movies) and it wont do a lot of the "special features" the newer bluray player can we still LOVE it and our going to buy another player.
As for updating you just call the company who manufactered the player and they will send you a disk to update it. We have also found some of the BluRay DVDs will update it to automatically. Kinda like the Wii does when you purchase certain games.
