Disney Between Christmas and New Years WWYD?

I am considering a trip right after Christmas including New Years. I have been several times during this time frame and due to the crowds I always vow I won't go back again during that time! Well now I am thinking about it again! Here is why.....

I have been saying for the past few years I would like to see the Christmas decorations.
We've been having a tough year due to losing two pregnancies and now infertility testing. I feel like a need a little get away from all the stress.

Now here is the problem....DH cannot come. He only gets Jan 1 off from work.

So would you take a trip between Christmas and New Years with a friend who has never been while DH is at home working?

We'd be driving from NH since airfare is nuts! We'd also probably priceline a hotel. We are DVC members and normally we stay at a DVC resort, but we can't this time. My friend has never been and won't know the difference, I might.

So what would you do? Would you drive from NH, priceline a room and take a friend who has never been to Disney while leaving DH at home? And do this in the week between Christmas and New Years? I'd also be spending New Year's Eve without DH. I'd be gone Dec. 26-Jan 2.

My other option is just to wait it out because we are going the end of February.

The Christmas decorations are there every year. I wouldn't want to spend NYE w/o DH. Can you and your friend go somewhere else for a few days R&R - like a spa?

I asked DH last night if he would be upset if I was gone for NYE..and he said he wouldn't mind. This way I wouldn't drag him to a party and he could be in bed before the ball drops! Old man!

If it's okay with your DH, the only problem I see is the weather.. You're going to be driving all the way down the east coast from NH and you have no idea if you are going to drive into a blizzard going in either direction.. If you run into one on the way down, it could end up taking you days to get there - much longer than you expected - and ditto coming back..

I wouldn't want to be on the roads (weather, too many people drinking) during that time of year.

I somehow don't get how the stress of WDW the busiest time of the year , will offset other life stress. I would check into a swank hotel for a 3 day weekend and do lots of room service and spa treatments!

Don't go. That is when we are going (NOT MY CHOICE AT ALLLLL) so for me, the less people the better!!! LOL Seriously though, how bad is it???

Stay home and spend the money at a spa.

I wouldn't do it if Mickey himself met me at the MK gates and escorted me onto SM for the first ride.

We've done it 3 times, and despite the crowds, it's our favorite time of the year to be in WDW. However, I don't think I would drive from NH given your dates. I would think if you left the 26th, to be safe driving that time of year, you would need to stop overnight and then arrive sometime the 27th. Then to get back on the 2nd, you'd need to leave early the 1st, which isn't always the best time to be driving either. While that does give you 4 days there, since you'll be offsite you'll need to be at the parks at opening to be sure you get in each day, which can make for some long days, given that MK will open at 8am for offsite guests each day. And with the crowds, that tends to be even more tiring than usual. If you plan to stay up on NYE, that will make the drive home on the 1st be rough too.

Now if you think your friend will be up for that on her first trip, and you don't mind the hectic pace, then go for it. But otherwise I'd probably look into a closer destination at home where you can go with your friend and relax.
