I left off on my last installment watching my husband and son walk away, wondering if Id ever see them again. Ok, well I was at least wondering if theyd make it for our scheduled meal! Mom and I decided to locate 50s café, then stake out the closest parade spot. We argued a little over where the actual parade route was, then I parked Megan and took a seat on the pavement. Unfortunately, wearing wet sandals at the party the night before was turning out to haunt me in the form of 2 HUGE blisters on my feet. Its only day 1. This was not a good sign! My mom looked around a little outdoor shop, and I talked to the couple next to me. Then I looked over and saw this.
Well, it looked like neither one of my kids were going to see the parade! Oh well. I guess Id rather have her well rested. When the parade started I had the still camera and mom got her first shot at using out new video camera. Id seen the MGM parade before in person and then many, many times on video. However, I really enjoyed it. Maybe it was because we hadnt seen many characters yet this trip. It made me sad that the kids were missing it. When Mulan passed by she pointed at Megan, smiled, and made a sleeping motion. When Stitch passed by he pointed at her and pretended that he was going to poke her with his candy cane! As the parade ended, the video camera battery died. This turned out to be a theme for the trip. We had to get a new video camera at the last minute and Dave didnt get a chance to get a better battery. Cute parade, but itll be nice to see something new when we go back SOMEDAY!
I really wish I could meet Miss Piggy I want to squeeze her squishy little pig nose! I wonder what it feels like?
After the parade we took a leisurely walk past the lake towards 50s. It was a little early, but we figured we could let Megan sleep a little longer. We sat on a bench to people watch. *WARNING* If by chance the following observation describes you, Im really sorry, but WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! So these two ladies walk past us wearing those flannel pajama bottoms! Ok, Ive seen this at the grocery store, and maybe at
Walmart, but DISNEY?! Not to mention the fact that it was 80 degrees! It was odd. Soon after, guess who comes by? Its Dave and Hunter! Its a miracle! They rode Star Tours twice since Hunter loved it, and this was new favorite ride. They also met Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable. They were going to meet us for the parade after all, but got stuck in parade traffic or something. Im not sure.
I check us in, then we decide to wake Megan up. She wasnt too happy with us! We went inside and it was packed! I always look around at people to see if they look annoyed, like theyve been there awhile. They did. I hoped that we didnt have to wait too long because if youre keeping track it was 3:45 and we hadnt eaten anything since breakfast other than the ice cream that we shared during TOT. We were starving!
The waitress station was cute, like a 50s kitchen. I kept watching an older cast member seating people. She walked slower than anyone Ive ever seen! I really hoped she wasnt our waitress! We were called pretty quickly and seated it a little side room with only a couple of tables. I was glad to be away from people. A chance to relax. Well, as much as I can relax in a restaurant with 2 kids. Our waiter came over and HE WAS A BIG DUD! I was disappointed, but the food made up for it!
Monica: Fried Herb Cheese= VERY YUMMY! Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich w/ smoked ham and fries=YUMMY!(But couldnt finish it), Smores=Good, but not as yummy as I had hoped. Maybe its because I was stuffed!
Dave: Shrimp cocktail=Average, Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans=Very Good, Ice cream sundae=Very Good
Mom: Chocolate shake=Good, Chicken Noodle Soup=Very Good, Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans=Very Good, Brownie Sundae=Very Good, but she wondered what she was thinking ordering a shake!
Hunter: Chicken noodle soup= picked out the carrots and probably the chicken, but ate all of it, Mac and cheese=Well, its mac and cheese! He ate most of it, Sundae=Yummy
We all just shared with Megan. I watched sadly as the table next to us had to sing Im a Little Tea Pot. Hunter really would have enjoyed having a funny waiter. He did bring Megan a cupcake. She loved it!
The kids were kind of acting up so having our picture taken was not high on my list!
OK. Fake smile. Megan! Get your finger out of your nose!
Would we eat here again? Absolutely! The food was very good. Would we come back if the food was gross, but the waiter was great? Of course not. So the food is the most important aspect of the restaurant. A good waiter is just a plus. This is the only time that we left a restaurant feeling miserably stuffed. A ton of food.
As we left, I realized that my mom wasnt following us. Whered she go? She went the wrong way so I went to find her. I see her stopped at a table talking to someone. As I come around the corner my mom says, There she is. They were asking about our shirts. I told them how I made them and she asked if she could take a picture. Um, Ok. She took a picture then sort of reluctantly asked if I was on the DIS boards! I said yes and she pointed at her friend and she said, So is she! We exchanged screen names and it was DisneyAddicted! We had been reading the same pre-trip report (RoxanneNSteve) so we recognized each other although we had never spoke. We got a picture together and said our goodbyes. How cool that we found each other and neither one of us had our lime green Mickey heads! Its like we have DIS radar!
Afterwards I took Hunter to the restroom and I have to say this was the NASTIEST Disney bathroom I had ever seen! I didnt even let him wash his hands. I just scrubbed them with a wet wipe and hand sanitizer. There was water everywhere and paper towels all over the floor. Very gross.
By now it was around 5:30. It was time to head to my FAVORITE Disney attraction.
Next up: A great night and a wild ride!
