Hey all,

For those of you who have cruised recently on the ships that support the app, how do you like it? I thought I read somewhere a raving review about how having the app was so much better than the personal Navigators but I also seem to recall having that hard paper in front of you (and being able to mark/highlight it) can also be extremely useful too.

Anyway, just wanted to get some feedback from those of you who have actually used the app. I plan on bringing my Nexus 7 tablet and have the DCL app loaded. Looking forward to trying it out in a couple weeks :)

Hi - count me as one of the many who really liked having the App. Let me tell you why:

1) You can see your entire cruise activities at once and in one place. If you wait until the paper navigator you will see "that day". Not that you need to be an OCD planner but it does help you figure out when you might want to see a movie or do a class.

2) You can favorite your activities that you want to do and see that list - better than a hilighter!

3) You can see what your menu is for the cruise - perhaps you want to schedule a Palo or eat at another place or just plan your meals in advance!

4) It doesnt get ripped or crinkly when you get it wet and fold it in your pocket ;)

I am sure there is room for improvement but i thought it was well laid out and easy to use.. it took a few tries to get the hang of how it was organized but you can see things by day or event and always have it handy.

Even with the app it was fun to get the navigator in the room and read it as well.

Hope this helps!

I still like the old fashioned Navigators better.... EXCEPT I did enjoy being able to peruse the restaurant menus ahead of time on the app :)

Is the app useful at all just on a phone or do you need a tablet for it to be readable?

Hi Heather - I have a Galaxy S3 and it was quite readable and obviously designed for small devices. (even though my son says my phone is the size of a tablet ;) )

I'm gonna guess that it just depends on your phone. If you have an older smartphone with a small screen, it may not be as easy to navigate. My phone stinks (Motorola Droid 2 Global) and is pretty slow too, which is why I'm planning to bring the tablet. If you have a larger display phone, I think that'd be perfect if you don't want to carry a tablet around all the time.

Ooh I didn't even think of that!! I would love to be to plan ahead and didn't know that you got the whole week's worth on the app! Good to know!

Does anyone know if they have the Disney Cruise App for Windows Phones? I love my phone, but some of the apps I would like are not completed on that format yet.

I have the same question! I have a Windows phone, and would love to be able to highlight "favorites" from the Navigator on my phone!
:confused3

Loved the app! I would read the paper navigator once to get the lay of the land so to speak and then toss it out. I used the app throughout the day.

We used the app on our iphone 4s last weekend on the Magic. It worked fine mostly..some of the menu items from the restaurants didn't match up correctly

We loved the app! I never carried the paper around before bc I found it large and inconvenient. But carrying my phone was natural and easy bc I use it for pictures anyway. It was so nice to be able to look up hours of operations, and events, weather, and port information. Plus, I hate wearing a watch so this was the only means of keeping time since it's so hard to find clocks on board. I would be extremely disappointed if it wasn't available on future cruises.

Do you have to pay for the wireless package, or do you just download it before the ship leaves port? Do they update it throughout the voyage?

We aren't planning on changing our plan to be able to use our phone on the trip. will we still be able to use it with out being charged premiums prices? assuming of course it's already downloaded.

It's kinda moot at this point as we'll be on the Wonder and as of now they don't have it available for that ship.

There are no charges. You don't need to sign up for their wifi plan or use your carrier's data. You do connect to the onboard wifi, but the app information loads without having to register or buy a data plan.

We used it for the first time on the Dream last weekend and really liked it. Another nice feature that I didn't figure out until the last day was that you can mark activities as "favorites" (that might not be the term they use, but you get the idea). So if, for example, your kids want to do "Sloppy Science" in the Lab, you can mark it and see at a glance every time it's available for the duration of the cruise.

Did I read this right and the app is now available on the Magic? We are going Feb 28th and didn't know if it would be available yet.

We used it last month (iPhone/iPad) and this app was a home run for DCL! It is well designed, fast, easy to use, and had ALL of the information we ever needed. I particularly like the ability to favorite an activity and easily access my favorites in one place.

We enjoyed it so much we didn't use our navigators at all. It was kind of nice not having a lot of ads in our face (the navigator seems to be full of "spend money on this"), and having the different categories to review.

Loved it. Thanks, Disney for this useful and easy-to-use app.

From the "Connecting On Board" page of the app itself:

1 Turn Airplane Mode ON

2 Turn WI-Fi ON

3 Select DCL-GUEST

Select the network DCL-GUEST. For iOS 7: Tap DCL-GUEST and turn off Auto-Login if it is already on.

This on board network provides complimentary service for on board app use only.
