Disney and Twitter

What is a twitter:confused3

Is it like a blog... who creates it...

i know i've been called a twit.

Twitter is like an instant messenger, you can use it via the web site, texting from your cell phone, and other clients that install on your PC and your cell phone so you can tweet from anywhere.

Twitter is great! They've been having some scaling issues since so many people have started using it, but the service itself is very good. You can find me on Twitter here. :thumbsup2

And Wildeoscar posted about Twisney here in May. Pretty cool. :goodvibes

I am on twitter as well you can find me at msahovey I love it I have to be better about updating it though.

Also I dont know if anyone has seen this but this website is fun to read when you are missing disney, its like twitter/flickr/disney.

Yay, I was hoping there was a Twitter thread around here somewhere! I'm a former Twitter-scoffer, now a Twitter-addict. :rolleyes1 I'd love to follow some fellow DIS pals! You can find me at http://twitter.com/crazy4disney.

the concept of twitter is that you send out a message that often answers the question, "What are you doing right now?"

the number of characters that can be sent are limited in any given message. there are different client versions that allow some cool extras (clients would be the version of software you use to send the tweet (a tweet is the message you send))

Twisney uses this technology along with google maps to show where in WDW you sent your messages. As you use it is makes more and more sense how the format and the technology work. This is something that grew out of silicon valley computer geek stuff, that is starting to spill in the mainstream.

Think of it as a micro blog tool where you can tell your friends about what you are doing... it has been used as a tool to form flash mobs (google up a definition for 'flash mob') if you check out twitter.com/kevinrose or twitter.com/JasonCalacanis and read the back entries... some of the content will be geek talk that goes over your head, but shows how the medium is best used.

and twisney just rocks, you can use it to tweet wait times for attractions, the location of special characters, if a ride or attraction is down, etc. Any questions, I'd be happy to 'splain

I just did a search for Twitter on the forums here and can't believe how little it has been discussed. I actually just got into it in January bu ton our recent trip this past weekend I twittered our whole trip daily and even uploaded some pics to twitpic.

Not certain what is up with twisney, doesn't seem like they have their act together yet but the concept is a good idea. What I really would like to see happen is for Disney to use it so you could get tweets on things like ride wait times, parades, etc, sort of like Pal Mickey on twitter. You could subscribe to each of the 4 parks for instance and if you were going to MK that day, get constant updates on just info for that park. I would only have mobile updates on for that park although I use twitterberry so it would be easy to get updates anywhere. It may fly in the face of Pal Mickey sales and whatever the new wifi Gameboy DS application they are creating for the park but it would be a LOT more accessible to the masses and probably help out with crowds. The twisney idea is similar but having the public do it probably wont work well yet since there just aren't many people, relatively speaking, that use twitter yet that would be in the park daily and willing to tweet every time they walk past a ride clock.

What is the advantage of Twitter over Facebook? If I'm already on Facebook, what could Twitter offer me? And would I network better of FB or T?

With twitter I can follow people that I may be interested in following, such as other Disney lovers. But think of it as only the status window part of Facebook. The difference is, if I'm interested in what several people are doing right now, with Facebook I actually have to go to Facebook and look up each person's info. With twitter, as soon as they write something, I can see it online or have it sent directly to my cell, Blackberry, iPhone, etc.

Say you went to Disney with a group of people. If everyone wasn't going to be together the whole time, they could twitter and the other fragmented groups would know where everyone was, without having to call or direct text each person in each group. It would also be a good way to meet up with other Disney freaks in the parks. If people were twittering in the parks and I followed you, I may walk over and meet you after you tweeted that you were standing in front of Walt and Mickey at the hub at MK. Kind of like broadcasting an electronic lime green Mickey. The possibilities are endless.

There are also ways to upload a picture and then link to it easily, I just spent a weekend in Disney and twittered the whole weekend and uploaded pics in between so family and friends could see what I was doing or seeing within minutes of me doing it.

You can even hook them together so when you twitter, it also updates your Facebook status so you don't have to do both. I would follow people from the forums here for instance if I knew they were going to be in the parks the week I was there a lot quicker than I would add people from here to my Friends in Facebook.

I just joined Twitter last night. Hope to see you all there :thumbsup2
