Does anyone know if someone who enlists, serves overseas and after their first tour is up leaves (on good terms) is eligible to Shades of Green or any of Disney's military discounts? Or do you have to be a career solider, etc?

Yes, I guess what I am struggling with is what does 'retired' mean. I am trying to help my sister plan a trip for her husband a surprise). He served in Afghanistan, but was not a career military man. He enlisted, served and is now a teacher. Is he considered 'retired'?

Shades of green has recently opened bookings to those who were honorably discharged with a DD214 form for the months of September and January. More information is on the SOG website. Otherwise, retired, is when a military service person has done the full 20 or more years and retired with military retirement benefits. There are exceptions to the term "retired" if they have been medically retired. But, based on the information you have given, he is a veteran, but not retired, and can utilize SOG in September and January. Happy planning!

Great information!
I just called Shades of Green yesterday about this program and it's still effect. It is only in the months of January and September.
@Sdolores your sister can check the website or call Shades of Green at 888.593.2242 for more information.

You guys are the best. I have been planning my trip (December@ GF) and she started asking. I have called Shaded 5 times and get placed on hold and told to leave my number. I knew right where to come. The info @marylandteachinggirl provided about the term 'retired' was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
