My husband has a three torns discs and 4 herniated discs from a MVA three years ago. The damage to his back was too severe to fix with surgery, so he is under the care of a pain management specialist and had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in his spine last June. We are taking the kids on a trip to Disney this summer. He will be unable to go on alot of the harsher rides, but he can go on milder rides per his pain doctor and spinal surgeon. However he is unable to stand for long periods of time. While we can accomodate this when we are in the park I am concerned that waiting in lines will be difficult. I am wondering if there is a pass that would accomodate this. He does carry a medical card for this and has obvious scars from back surgery. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would suggest reading the FAQ's sticky.
waiting in line during the summer will happen. The parks will be busy. you will wait just as long trying to get from one attraction to the other. I would suggest a ECV or wheelchair. This is Disney's solution to stamia issues.

I think most don't understand you will have to wait in line to get on a ride, wait in line to get on a bus, monorail, tram wait in line to eat, wait in line to walk down main street on a busy day! GAC's don't work for anything but rides and trust me last weekend we waited in line 40 minutes for the Jungle cruise when we went with our friend who is in a WC- and over 35 minutes for another ride.
it's long way around the world showcase -over a mile. Can he walk long distances?

I would also suggest a really good touring plan. That helps more than anything!
WDW is a HUGE place and there is a lot of walking and waiting!

Have an awesome time!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

The majority of attraction lines in WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that a wheelchair or ECV will use the regular entrance and line all the way to either a show seating or ride load area. If a line is not mainstreamed there will be signs and/or Cast Members to direct you where to go.

If a show, normally there will be spaces to park a chair or ECV and there will be seats next to the space for other members of the group.

If a ride, usually you will have to transfer to a ride vehicle, although some rides will allow a person in a wheelchair to remain in their chair. If you have to transfer to a ride, and unload is not at the same location as load, your ECV will magically appear at the unload area.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Note that Post #2 discusses mobility and equipment. Post #3 had a wide variety of information and links; it might be a good idea to look at the various park "Guidebook For Persons With Disabilities" for more detailed information.
