Hi everyone! I wanted to touch on a subject that I don't think I have seen on the boards. I am a diabetic and in normal life I have a hard time controlling it. (not insulin dependent, yet) However when I am at Disney it's easier to handle. I know all diabetics are different, but for me I find that because Disney is not a stressful place for me and all of the walking we do my sugar is easier to control and I NEVER gain weight at Disney.

There are times when I become drained and that is when I have to stop and rest and have a small snack so I can keep going. (I am a park open to park close kind of girl. My Disney passion knows no boundaries!) I also find that I can have a few things that I normally wouldn't not eat, like Dole whip or an extra serving of mashed potatoes at Crystal Palace, or that delicious juice at Tusker House.

For me being a Disney Diabetic is not as challenging at it is here in the north east. (one day I hope to move to FL and be in the parks as much as possible)

So how do other diabetics handle the parks? Do you find it easier to control like I do or is it more difficult for you? Let's hear from some Disney Diabetics and your strategies for controlling your sugar while at Disney.

Have a great day everyone!

My wife has Type I diabetes and we eat healthy options at WDW. There are many available, you just have to decide that staying healthy is a priority.

Type 2 diabetes. On Levimir and oral. I eat like a maniac in WDW and wake up shaky with low morning sugar. I told my doctor that I habe found the cure for disbetes.

I am sure you'll find this topic covered quite a bit, and you'll probably get more responses, on the DISabilities board http://www.disboards.com/forums/disabilities.20/

You may also want to post on the Restaurant board too: http://www.disboards.com/forums/disney-restaurants.14/

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't even think about that.

It's pretty great isn't it? I look forward to getting down there in November. I actually told my doctor the same thing!

My sugars are GREAT when I am at Disney. I eat treats and all my faves at certain restaurants. I don't go wild but I think all the walking helps while there. I am type 2 also.

I'm a type II diabetic on insulin pump. I'll concur that my sugars always seem to be better in Disney no matter how I eat. It's definitely all the walking.

I'm type 2. I eat whatever I want while at WDW and cover for it with Humalog. I make sure I carry candy with me in case of lows.

Just wanted to say how great Disney is we were at AOA 2 years ago and my husband forgot his needles for his insulin. I asked the front desk about the best way to get to Walgreens, and they gave me 2 vouchers for a Taxi.

My husband and I are both Type 1 diabetics and totally agree - our sugars are so much better at Disney :) We are both on pumps and eat pretty much whatever we want while there - for us I think all the walking really helps. We do have to really make sure we keep plenty of snacks in the room as we have had occasions where one (or both) of our sugar drops after long days in the parks.

That is why we love Disney!
