I think you hit it on the head...

On a side note...woke up in a empty house at 5:45 this morning...which took me to the bad place

and the bad place was the fast pass selection site.

I'm still completely against scheduling vacations...but that being said i'll tinker with it maybe a day or two and try it because its there.

Well after about a half and hour...the ship is turning hard to port on this thing for me. I do see the appeal...and i'm actually thoroughly impressed that the website is as together as it is at this point. Disney's technology is notoriously inefficient and overpriced for a long feel out period (took them till about 2006 to get a windows based resort system...22 years after mac and 20 after windows)...but the site is pretty good.

A few things will take some getting used too...mainly that you have to take one of "their" times sequences...which is annoying...but then you can go back and modify the times. Pretty good idea...maybe a tad confusing.

The second is i can't figure out how you don't make 3 selections in a particular park...is it possible not to?

hmmm...its worth tinkering with...at the least. And i'm convinced that they might have something here (90% of the game is 50% mental)

that's fine for now to not overload the circuit boards...

though i would think if the system is built well there is no reason why you won't be able to pick your spots in the near future...wouldnt think that would be a problem at all if its all tied together.

Yeah, but it may interfere with their attempt to monitor and herd the masses. I think they want to reduce hopping, not encourage it. Easier to plan the work force.

which is one of the whole points (and increased gift shop time)...

and just to go a step farther...i wouldn't bet against them using dining reservations to limit your pre-book options as well...
as i booked magic kingdom spots for a day with an epcot reservation...that may go bye bye in the future

So why would you open up yourself to the horrible PR of 'being elitist' and things like that when it wouldn't get you anymore bodies in the deluxe resorts (becasue they are already full to the brim).

I think you are confusing "elitist" with " free enterprise" and "you get what you pay for"

I don't think that they all fill up. I routinely check availability up to our travel date and many of the deluxes still have rooms. Now they may not have many rooms but there's no way to know that. I think that the prices keep people from filling them.

As for charging extra for certain tiers to get more FP+, I'm OK with that. I'm not in favor of limiting people without allowing some type of access though.

i think that's more likely but still not a slam dunk. People hate universal and six flags for selling front of the line privileges. Disney is so worried about looking bad I could see it being to 'dangerous' for them to try.

Yeah I'm sure there would be some backlash, but in the end, I think the mouses pocketbook will prevail. As long as they make extras available to all for a reasonable fee,( thanks planogirl) or make it the new package deal instead of free dinning, I think it will be okay.

I've also been told that they will get the full allotment of FP+ reservations that are allocated to other guests, even if they just come for the day.

The only thing I forgot to ask is whether or not there is a limitation to the amount of FP+ Annual Passholders can pull in one month. IE. "Can I pull three FP+ reservations every day for a whole month if I choose to come to the parks every day in said month"...

from the bajillion posts elsewhere on this forum-

annual passholders apparently get 3 passes just like on site guests (and presumably offsite guests once they go live).

AP's get 14 days of 3/day at a time. Once they use up day 1 they can make another day's reservations so they always are allowed 14 days of reservations. I'm not sure the typical annual passholder would have more than 14 days of visits at a time planned anyway.

we have been dvc owners for 10 yrs. and come to disney 2 or 3 times a yr. we along with other dvc members choose to spend our money there rather than other vac areas. we do buy aps also.

i really hope disney is not going to let us down on this one.

Not accurate. DVC often offers a sales incentive. 10 years of park passes was the early incentive. Disney didn't take it away. The offer expired. People who purchased under the incentive got the passes which were promised

That's a total foul and you know it...

They sold the points for 50 per and threw in park tickets...now they sell them for $150 and have shaved down the benefits (limits on pool hopping, valet, etc). Just because it "expired" doesn't mean it doesn't smell like last week's fish. We got an annual for a wedding... Got pretty much nil for DVC.

The new prices are not simply "adjusted for inflation" and we all know it. It's just not as good of a deal... The 11 Month window is garbage smoke screen.

It is...of course...purely opinion, but I personally think they have shown less loyalty to DVC owners as time has passed.

All evidence has kinda been to the contrary in recent years...more cost. Less perks to both those groups

I'm sorry to say, but I'd be ok with paying more for extra fastpasses. You effectively do this by staying onsite at universal and I'd be happy for the opportunity to pay to limit the lines. I don't LOVE the GF (in fact, my faves are the Swan - not Disney, but ya know - and the CR), but I'd happily pay the premium for an easier vacation.
