Ok, so my DH and I were discussing airfare for our fall trip, and he says to me, "I am surprised Disney hasn't started their own airline yet..." :confused3 If you think about it, they could probably do really well, especially with all the different theme parks.

I can see it now, "Good morning folks, and welcome aboard Disney Air. This is your pilot Goofy speaking. Please take a moment to watch the safety instructions your cabin attendants, Minnie and Daisy are demonstrating. From myself and your co-pilot Donald, I just want to wish you a magical flight!!!" :rotfl2:

Ahh,,, have you ever been to Goofy's Barnstormer??? Don't think I'll be letting Goofy pilot any plane I'm on!!! That's too funny!!!!

On a serious note, the airline business is about as cut-throat as they come with many variables completely beyond the control of the carriers. An economic downturn impacts travel, fuel prices hit the bottom line and these are just the most obvious. Disney wants to control EVERYTHING! WDW is its own government, Reedy Creek, with its own fire company, electrical supply and other utilities. They're not going to overcharge themselves for services. An airline would be nice in good times, an out of control drag in bad times. Disney will not subject itself to such uncertainty as long as there are other fools willing to cart customers to MCO, usually at a loss.

I think there is a chance Disney will get into the airline business in the future, at least on a limited basis. They already have added Magical Express so that the customer's vacation is in Disney hands as soon as they get to Orlando. I'm sure someone is thinking about backing this up a bit more. They can sell packages that include airfare, and it will be airfare on Disney airline (probably charters). I think the chances of this increase greatly if Delta goes under. If Delta stops flying, Disney is going to feel the pain at their theme parks. The best way for them to make sure the customers keep coming is to take charge of their transportation

Hey, now there's a thought...DisneyDelta Air!!! Maybe Disney could bail out Delta.....nah, probably not I guess.

Disney would never get involved with an airline. One should never say never, but I'm going to say it. Never.
Between the oil prices and dealing with the unions.

With all the airlines in trouble, Disney is wise not to get into this business. As for charters, they would have to make a huge commitment, at least 100+ ppl wanting to leave at the same time from the same city for 1 plane. Then multiply it by how many cities. This would be mega bucks. And if cost go up, Disney would have to raise the price, which would make many ppl just drive or not go.

But in the fantasy world, it would be wonderful to be in DisneyWorld as soon as I got on the plane.

Alaska airlines has a plane painted with the fab 5. I got to ride it down to Anaheim from Seattle. I was more excited than the 2 11 yr olds I was with!!!

Everytime I fly from Boston to Orlando, the plane is completely packed (not an empty seat) and everyone seems to be going to Disney. And there are many planes out every day. I don't think Disney would have any trouble filling at least a couple planes a day from Boston and back. I'm sure other cities are the same way.
