Disney 8.5 months pregnant?

Everyone's situation is different and every pregnancy is different, but for me, it just seems too risky that late in the pregnancy to take a chance that something could go wrong. I know my OB would not approve of traveling that far at 36 weeks. And it will be much easier to make changes to your plans now rather than at the last minute just in case something were to happen or if you reached the 32 or 34 week point and were just downright miserable and didn't feel like going. You and baby's health and safety should be the first priority. You will probably enjoy a nice vacation just as much or more a few months before or after the birth even if it means having the inconvenience of having to reschedule flight, hotel, etc. now. I think it depends on your pregnancy and OB (as well as your personality). I went to Disney last June when I was 37 weeks pregnant. Not going wasn't an option for me...so at my 36 week checkup I informed the OB that I would be going to Disney the next week. She just shook her head at me (said that they usually don't advise for women at full term to travel) but gave me my medical records just in case, told me to get up and walk while on the plane, and did an internal to make sure I wasn't already 6 cm dilated or something. Disney is not in some 3rd world country, Orlando does have very adequate hospitals if someone decides to come early (talk about a Disney souvenier). Anyway - I had a blast...even in the June heat. I walked everywhere, drank lots of water, ate whatever I wanted, rode everything but the rollercoasters.

Hi all,

I know I've read posts about this before but can't seem to find them right now. We just found out we're having #3 (definitely not planned but still excited) and have our December trip to Disney scheduled and paid for for early December. Have any of you traveled to Disney 36ish weeks pregnant? This is our 5th trip to Disney so I'm very familiar with the amount of walking but I have no idea what to expect when it will be waddling instead of walking.

I wish I could, but I seriously doubt your OB will approve the trip and without a doctors note, you're not likely to be able to fly that late in the pregnancy. And I really feel your pain - we were going to make DD's birthday at Disney an annual tradition, until we found out she's getting a little sister for her birthday this year!

I'm 25w pregnant with #3 right now, and when I asked my doc about the summer trip we have planned for right after the kids get out of school, she said point-blank that it is a bad idea to travel at that point in pregnancy. And we're not planning anything nearly as major as Disney at 36w - the trip she is so against me taking is to a local waterpark resort, less than 2hrs from home, where my then-34w pregnant butt can lounge in the water like the whale I know I'll feel like by that point! In my situation, I may or may not heed her advice because it is a slow-paced trip, a short distance from home, and a resort with a 24hr cancellation policy so I don't have to worry about being out the money if I can't make it for some reason. But in your situation? I'd change my dates, either to earlier in the pregnancy or to a couple months after baby is due to arrive. We're going to Disney in December with our August arrival, and we're all really looking forward to baby's first trip to meet the Mouse!

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I've contacted my insurance, the airline (we have a non-stop 3 hour flight both ways), and my Dr. and everyone cleared me to go just a little earlier. Now we are going when I will be about 31 weeks pregnant. Last time we were at Disney I was 24 weeks pregnant so I have a little experience with the swelling, drinking lots of water, and taking breaks. Fortunately my husband, my sister, and my parents will all be on this trip so we will have lots of help with our two little princesses!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I would not be going to Disney that far along in a pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is different, so you never know if any complications will arise. At 36 weeks I was on mandatory bedrest & my son was born 3 weeks early.

So I would move the trip earlier, or wait until after the baby was born to go.

Having had both my babies at 37 weeks... I gotta ask, are you really interested in giving birth away from home? You'll be in the ER with every other traveler who doesnt have a local doctor.

Glad to hear that you moved your trip up! I definitely wouldnt have gone that far along in my pregnancy. I dont even know if I could handle it at 31 weeks LOL!

This reminds of a post a few weeks ago about people being kicked out of the parks for various things. A cm had to force a lady out of the castle who was in labor and wanted to have her baby at Disney World.

Not saying you would do that but I thought that was the craziest/ funniest thing id heard.

good luck with the trip My Dr. says no travel ( more than 3 hours)when you enter 7th month.

Oh gosh, I don't think I would ever chance going that late. Now, none of my 3 babies came that early, and I was still feeling great up until about Week 37-38 or so, so I probably would have been fine.


I see you moved the trip to 31 weeks. I think you'll be fine. I was still feeling great at that point in my pregnancy.

Yes, I went to Disney 3 weeks before my son was induced. And it was August. Yes, I was hot. Yes, there were some rides that I couldn't go on (roller coasters, water slides, Pooh). Yes, people looked at me like I was nuts. But I had the time of my life and I don't regret going for one minute. I think you'll be fine.

Oh, and we drove from Pennsylvania.

Congratulations! I traveled to Disney World when I was 32 weeks and enjoyed every minute of it. A few ideas. When we were in Epcot, I rented a wheelchair. It was so nice to be able to sit in the shows (as opposed to leaning on a rail) and let my swollen feet get a break. I was also able to get some Mickey Ears for the baby with her name embroidered on them. (My daughter still likes the stories of going to Disney World in mommy's tummy) Enjoy!!!

I have done this, although we live 1.5 hours away and we drove. I don't think you can fly at 8.5 months pregnant. I wasn't especially active on that trip, LOL! It's doable, but not the most comfy vacation you'll ever have

Have a GREAT time & CONGRATS! I got PG a few months ago & had to move up our Sept trip (I would've been 8 1/2 mths, as well.) Now we're going in 3 weeks! Had to give up our free dining bounceback trip, but it's worth it.

Just a side note - you can fly. I know a few airlines, Delta specifically, has no restrictions on flying during pregnancy.
