Hi all,

I know I've read posts about this before but can't seem to find them right now. We just found out we're having #3 (definitely not planned but still excited) and have our December trip to Disney scheduled and paid for for early December. Have any of you traveled to Disney 36ish weeks pregnant? This is our 5th trip to Disney so I'm very familiar with the amount of walking but I have no idea what to expect when it will be waddling instead of walking.

Tell me it's going to be fine!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming new arrival. If you are flying, you should probably check into their rules about how far along you can be when you fly. I know there is a certain point where they no longer allow pregnant women to fly (to avoid any special deliveries in the air). My daughter was born at 36 weeks (and was considered full-term). I'd hate for you to miss your vacation due to an early arrival. Is there any chance you could move up your travel date a little bit?

I am sure you will be fine, but I must say, you are braver than I am! I went to Disneyland when I was almost 4 months, so I am not much help. The good thing is that it wont be too hot. I wouldnt reccomend it if it were in the summer. If this is your third, you know all the normal stuuf, like drink plenty of water and take a lot of breaks. But other than that, just have fun!

Oh, and walking can cause you to go into labor, so I would take it easy!

Definitely ask your OB/GYN his or her opinion. I don't know how far away you live from WDW, but I know I am not supposed to be within a few hours or so of my doc during the last trimester.

Congrats on the new addition! :thumbsup2

Congratulations! Like said in above posts, just check with your OB first. Maybe take a look back at pictures from your past pregnancies to see if it jogs your memory of how you felt physically at that time. I know you may feel great now, 8 1/2 months pregnant can be trying--even for the person who can sit on the couch all day! Also think about what type of day this will allow you in the parks. Will your DH be able to keep up with the kids if you decided to rest back in the room? I know you are fully paid but I am sure Disney would allow you to change your dates based on your situation. You may not be able to cancel and get a full refund but you can certainly change your dates.

Good luck! We have three and it is a wonderful dynamic!

I haven't travelled at 36 weeks pregnant, but I have given birth!, LOL!
First one was at 37 weeks and second at 36. Both were at least 8 pounds - I just have them large and early.
Just something to think about :)

I keep having visions of me being uncomfortable and fat in all of the pictures from our trip!! Thanks for the words - I'm definitely going to talk to my OB at my first appt. and get her thoughts.

Thanks again!

If you are still living in KS, then Im sorry but I really think you will not be going on your WDW trip in December if you are due 4 weeks later.

If for some reason your ob thinks traveling several states away for a non emergent vacation is an okay idea, or if you simply ignore docs advice, just be safe and prepared.

If flying, check the airline. If driving, you would add a much longer drive time as you will have to get out very often to #1. pee #2. stretch and move your legs as to prevent blood clots which pregnancy makes you much more prone too.

Have a backup plan if you are in Disney and have to give birth. Im sure the hospitals around there are well qualified to deal with childbirth. But just know you would then be away from home for quite awhile as you would be stuck for probably at least a week (giving yourself labor and recovery time), then figuring out how to get back home with a newborn.
If theres a complication of your pregnancy that shows up you could be stuck far away from home for a month or more.

I guess theres no way I would want to be far away from home with doctors and medical personnel I didnt know or trust. And then theres being stuck in a hotel for days recovering from childbirth, um, no way no how for me.

ERMama - Thanks for the reply. I'm 95% sure you're right and my OB will tell me we need to move up our vacation. The thought of delivering somewhere 1,500 miles away from home gives me the heebie jeebies.

As long as you don't mind having your baby at Celebration Hospital, I say go for it:lmao:

I went to disney at 7 months pregnant and it was fine....hot but fine (it was September).

I had to miss my husbands sister's wedding when I was 37 weeks pregnant bc it was in Vermont (7 hour drive from me). My OB was set against it. I didn't feel comfortable going either. I did feel really bad about missing the wedding though. It turns out I could have gone because I had the baby 13 days later. Oh well.;)

By the time I was that far along, it was so uncomfortable for me to ride in the car for any period of time, I would have wanted to cancel a trip regardless of what by OB said!

If you move it up to the Halloween season you can still have a lot of fun! I went last month when I was 6 months pregnant, and besides being to big to get on any of the thrill rides I still had a great time. You just need to take it easy and drink lots of fluids and you should be ok!

I agree with others who think it's not a very good idea. I would be way too stressed about delivering away from home to be able to enjoy myself.
Also, check with your insurance. Mine wouldn't cover delivery out of town if I traveled during the last 32 weeks.

I'd hate for you to miss your trip, but I would hate it more if you were to go and have something happen that could harm you or the baby. I know you would be uncomfortable, that's always about the time I'm ready to be unpregnant, and the lack of sleep is awful at that stage. My opinion is that you would get there and be just miserable and not have a good time, maybe you can move up the trip or wait until a few months later and go when the weather is still cool and your able to be there under better conditions, you won't get to do as much with a baby, but you would be just as limited with being as big as you will be if you go while being preggers. Actually you would be able to do so much more if you go with the baby, you can pass off the baby to daddy and get to ride some of the rides you wouldn't get to ride other wise. I would wait, it might cost a bit more to change things, but probably better for all involved.
BTW, I'm from Kansas, Wichita as a matter of fact. Nice to see a fellow Kansan here.;) I'm a Texan now, but still have my roots in Kansas.

I don't believe you will be allowed to fly, and I'm pretty certain that your OB will tell you you are not clear to go. I had to miss my brother's wedding when I was about 36 weeks pregnant. My OB said absolutely not--no question or discussion. Of course, Disney is really important, but I think my brother's wedding is more important, yet I had to stay home.

Remember, as others have said, that far along, you probably won't want to be doing anything like hiking through parks and such.

I did this at DL when I was around 8 months. I felt HUGE!!! I did fine though, it was Dec so it wasn't too hot. I went on all the rides my 2 year old could go on so I wasn't any more limited than I would have been had I not been pregnant. I was definately ready to be done at the end of the day though. Just make sure you drink plenty of water and rest when you need to.

Check with your insurance. I think it was 35 or 36 weeks with my insurance that they simply wouldn't pay if you went to a hospital more than 2 hours from your home base.

There is no way I would do this and I do some pretty risky things. I have had enough pregnancies and been through enough pregnancies with friends to know all the unexpected things that could go wrong. First and foremost I would worry about blood clots forming on a long car trip. Flying is just out. I would move your trip. I went to WDW at 7 months and that was about my limit. I always delivered on my due date. Banking on that, I had my mom scheduled to fly in on my due date. My water broke at 36-37 weeks. With pregnancy you must expect the unexpected!

Congratulations!

I happen to be 36 weeks pregnant right now, and frankly, I would not go on a trip.

At 33 weeks I did long haul transatlantic flights (NYC to Zurich), and I was sorry - I had a lot of swelling, back and other discomfort, and lots of trips to the plane bathroom (:scared: ). I also had to get "special permission" from my doctor and she was not thrilled to give it.

Right now, a few weeks later, I can really feel myself running out of steam, just completing day to day tasks (like going up a flight of stairs!). I'm short of breath, cranky, tired, my appetite is coming and going, so I either feel gross and overfull from eating anything, or low blood sugar-y from not eating enough. Add in back pain and increasing tummy pressure, and lots of big twisting, rolling movements from the baby. I have a giant to-do list, but all I want to do is sit on the couch - I couldn't imagine slogging through WDW!

Of course, you may have nothing in common with me and your experience might be nothing like mine. For comparison's sake, I'm 39yo. I started out at the right weight for my height, and have gained 30 lbs so far. I have had an uncomplicated pregnancy, and I work full time, commuting a couple of times a week. I walk almost 2 miles a day. I think I've had a "textbook" pregnancy, but I am wiped out now!

I have one other DS9. He delivered at 37 weeks like a previous poster, which opens a whole other can of worms - forget being tired - babies can and do come around 36 weeks sometimes (my doctor has already told me if I "go" now, and I might, they will just let the labor progress to delivery). Do you want to risk going into labor being far from your doctor and hospital and home? I'd be worried about that!

I don't want to sound like a downer, but as someone in that precise position right now, I'd think twice.

Good luck with your decision.

Jane

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Like others have said, I would check with your OB, the airlines, and your insurance.

Can you move your trip up to earlier in the year? We leave in a few weeks and I'll be 22 weeks at that point. Maybe sometime in your second trimester would be easier and safer?
