Hi, booked to take the family (Hubby 42, Son 14 & Daughter 12) to AKL on Aug 24th 2007 for 14 nights. Usually fly with Virgin Atlantic but this time using Travel City Direct-this will be our 5th visit. Booked AKL not only because we liked look of resort but bunk-beds better for our family! Also taking advantage of 'free' Disney Dining Plan. Currently driving family mad writing plans (still months to go Mum) used crowd level planner in 'unoffical guide' to plan what days at what parks etc. Would appriciate feedback/advise on following;

AKL-Savanah view room with Bunkbeds booked
Disney Quest (first visit)
Sanford Airport (Driving distance, best roads etc)
Mickey BBQ (is it worth 2 table service allocations)
Spirit of Aloha (is it worth 2 table service allocations)
Using Dining Plan in general
How do I add a 'Tickertag' to countdown days?

welcome to the disboards :wave2:

as far as the dining plan goes....best advice is to look at the menus 1st to see what you like :) also if you are using 2 credits in one go you may need to pay out of pocket for some meals ...if so look at where your cheapest meals are :) i havnt been to the bbq or aloha so i cant help on those points

one of the mods will probably move this over to the trip planning forum...you may get more advice over there :)

Hi Shazzie B and welcome to the Dis :)

You will get a better response to your questions if you split them down into different threads :thumbsup2 but I will help where I can.

AKL - is a wonderfully immerse resort. It has a fabulous theme which is extremely well executed. We found the Disney buses fine at this resort but others prefer to take a car as it is slightly out of the way. We had a savannah room and it was superb to be able to sit and relax and watch the animals :)

To create a ticker, go to one of the websites that you an create these on and then paste the code into your signature (go into User CP at the top left of your screen and then "edit signature" )

We thought it was great tohave the Dining Plan and not have to worry about spending money on food, though we struggled to use it all. We spent quite a lot of our snack credits on bottled water which is not the best "use" of them, but was better than not using them at all, and in August you can't drink too much water:)

Hi shazzie..Welcome to the disboards. :sunny: ..Just wanted to say ..that I'll be there the same time as you...but staying at POFQ and I have a 14 year old son too :thumbsup2 ...He will actually turn 15 early September whilst we are still there.
We stayed at the Contemporary last August....Great hotel...Dh and Ds strangely were not so keen on disneyquest, I thought they would love it but they want to skip it next year.
You will LOVE the dining plan...make sure you make all your ADRs at the 6 mth mark...and Have a great holiday. :cheer2:

Welcome Shazzie, your mum sounds like a lady after my own heart. There's no such thing as too much planning in my eyes. Why don't you get her to join the Dis

It takes about an hour to drive from Sanford to WDW using the 417 Greeneway (which I find less stressful than Interstate 4 after a long flight) - we did measure the distance in October although I can't remember the exact mileage, but it was approx 50 miles.

We used the Dinning Plan in October and found that there was way too much food to eat. You can use your snacks to get individual cereals and milk for breakfast, but seeing as you'll have a 'fridge at AKL you could go to the supermarket and buy your own breakfast 'stuff'. We did find that eating three courses for table service and eating a dessert at counter service meals was hard work - couldn't not do it though as we'd paid for it :rotfl2: We split our table service meals (which we'd all booked as ADR's) as 5 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 8 dinners. Our best meal was, unexpectedly, Resturaunt Marrakesh with the 'Kings Feast' - I say unexpectedly as we've eaten at the counter service in Morroco before and it was awful. There wasn't really a 'worst' meal but our 'least favourites' were Hollywood and Vine (a buffet too far I suspect) and (again unexpectedly!) Le Cellier - though this was probably due to our choice of meals. Don't order the Salmon unless you also want a 6 inch round 'cake' of corn bread! We have eaten at Le Cellier before and enjoyed it.

You will need ADR's for all your table service meals whilst the 'free' dinning plan is in opperation. I would try to get ADR's either early morning for Breakfast or as late as you feel you can eat for Dinner. This way only the start or end of the day is fixed and you can 'go with the flow' for the rest of the day.

Congratulations on getting booked.

have only eaten at Boma at AKL but from what I saw it looks a great hotel.

My teenagers really enjoyed Disney Quest - we did too but they have a good coffee/cheesecake place to relax with some internet terminals though not many. A good place for a little parent only time!
