DISmoms Gone WILD!!!!! A trip to WDW w/out the KIDS!!!10/6 Updates p.36 FINISHED!

Oh snap! Those are the dates? I better mark that on my calendar!

well, it sure might help!!!:thumbsup2

So I've just uploaded 100 giraffe pics, and I'm almost ready to go on safari! I also uploaded tons of HHI pics to start that TR. Having some trouble picking a title. Anyway, I'll be doing both either tonight or Thursday- tomorrow i'm headed into NYC to see the Little Mermaid before it closes this month on Broadway. Doing a matinee with an early dinner afterwards- I actually like this better than a night show with dinner before, because, well, frankly, i can drink as much as I want AFTER the show without having to worry about pit stops DURING the show, if you get my drift.:dance3:

see ya later!

You guys are awesome! I love this report & can't wait to read more.

Hey ladies! Just stopping in to say hello. I am cracking up everytime I read a new update!!! Kara, you and Ellen bring on those 50-100 photos of the damn giraffe....and being the good DISers that we are, we will 'ooh' and 'aah' over each one!

Oh yeah, I do seem to recall it RAINING like insanely. Looks like you all took the Renfroe's approach and didn't let it get to ya.

Ellen- My husband's favorite is the Beverly! I personally skip right over it and get the one from China...but to each his own, right? It should be really easy to punk B/SIL on their first trip in December with DH really liking it though. Wait, can we borrow Cammie for this?:worship:

Welllllll - that's what you get for ordering fish in a steakhouse. :rolleyes1

Hate to say I told you so but.....................TOLD YOU SO. TOLD YOU SO. TOLD YOU, TOLD YOU, TOLD YOU SO! ;)

I know, I know!!! But none of the steaks for lunch appealed to me. I have this issue with fat. I can only eat filet or I end up cutting off any little bit of fat or gristle. Drives Jeff nuts!!!

Oh snap! Those are the dates? I better mark that on my calendar!

Holy cow! I thought it was later for some reason - those dates work better for me!!!!! We're thinking of not renewing our passes next year. Maybe just getting a FL 4 day pass instead, and since our annual passes expire May 5th, that will be perfect!!!!

I swear Alan, there was this one giraffe that was arms length away and we were all hanging out shooting up to get a close up head shot. Seriously, waaaaay cool, that that's the damn giraffe I was referring to, not the 50 others that we shot also!!! :rotfl2:

If you think the report is fun, you should have seen us while we were there! Non stop belly laughs!

What is the strawberry one? Mexico? Or China? I like that one. But Beverly is blech!!!!

Now that you mention it Kara...I'm not sure if it is Mexico or China that I like the best. I know that the one I like best tastes like watermelon...hmmm, maybe either one of those countries in WS should think of making it into an adult slush. That, or Ice Station Cool (yes, we still call it that...cause it was much better then) should just provide some shots of alcohol to make your own mixers.

I'm there Dec.5th through the 13th. When do you need me? ;)

I like it! :thumbsup2 This TR is just chock full of new ideas. I hope someone at WDW is taking note.

We've already come up with a new attraction idea: The Hottie McHottie at DTD; and now an alcoholic version of Club Cool. I seem to think those "samples" wouldn't be free though.

Perfect!! We will be there Dec. 6th through the 12th! Maybe they can only charge what the grocery stores up here charge for wine samples...10 cents! Although, if we brought in our own 'fun flask' it would be free ;).

Did I miss the 250pix of the Damn Giraffes !!!:lmao:

I need Cammie for next month to get my crew to drink Beverley!!!!!!:lmao:Are you available !!!!!???????

We were back at AKV...nice, warm, dry AKV...and we cleaned up and headed down to Jiko at 4:00 for the Wanyama Safari. A few pics of the restaurant before we head out-

It was finally time to go out to the AKL savannahs and check out the animals close up! The rain actually may have STOPPED for part of the safari which was REALLY nice, something I think we were all grateful for. We were loaded onto the vehicle, which was a big jeep with a bench all the way around it facing outwards for animal scoping. There were 2 CMs with us who both worked with the animals and seemed to love what they were doing. What was the BEST were the giraffes. I mean, ya know ya love them, but when you hear about their individual personalities and then they come right up to check you out, well, it kind of makes you completely infatuated for life. We were ALL lovin them! Their EYES are AMAZING!!!!!!!

We learned alot about the animals...like....the animals at AKV are mostly the trouble makers from DAK! :scared1: If they were causing a problem over there, they were shipped off to over here. Think of the savannahs at AKL as the island of misfit toys...err, animals... And they keep the girls seperated from the boys, for the most part. And the boy giraffes are VERY possesive of their women and their territory! Here's a BIG boy marking a tree with his own perfume for the ladies-

2007_051606summer0105.jpg

The male giraffes were SOOOOO tall- 14 or 15 feet!

Another really cool thing about this safari was getting to see the resort from a different perspective. This is Jambo-

The CMs explained that Disney wants this safari to be as authentic as possible. So, just like on an African Safari, we stopped and had snacks and jungle juice- but where were the monkeys with the beer bongs?????:confused3 Guess they must have finished all the beer in the first half of the trip with none left for Kara. Sorry honey!!! The driver-

The boys-

Have you ever seen this cattle and wondered why he was tilted? It's because he had an ear problem and his ear drum ruptured, so now he holds his head this way- but don't worry, he's not in pain-

These are some animals they are acclimating for one of the Kidani savannahs- red river hogs. They were really cool, glad we got to see them close-up-

And then we were over by Kidani, on those savannahs that are opened-

Our tour was almost done, we were back by the pens where they keep the animals when they're ill or need to be fed (where they can keep track of it). The giraffes are looking for some food here-

And then we were on our way back to the hotel for the second part of the Safari, the dinner at Jiko. I was sad that our guides would not be joining us for the meal. Not only were they very nice, but Amy (the talker) was really funny- I liked her alot! :thumbsup2

Next up- dinner at Jiko, family style. And can we have more of that yummy wine, Puh-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ????????????????

How did you get to do that safari?? I've never even heard of that before! It looks like it was a lot of fun, too.

To go on the Wanyama Safari, you must be staying at AKL- it is exclusive to the hotel. Concierge guests pay $160pp, other hotel guests $210 (and there was at least one couple on the safari who was staying in the regular hotel and not the concierge floor). The price includes the safari and dinner paired with wine at Jiko afterwards. We also all got ponchos because it was raining. Tip and tax is included. We all felt like it was worth it, it was a one-of-a-kind experience.:thumbsup2

Kool Pix Ellen!!! Poor Kara NO BEER!!!!:lmao:

I KNOW! We thought we were gonna lose her there for a while, it was touch and go- it was maybe 1 1/2 hours between alcoholic beverages for Kara- a new personal best!!!!:rotfl2: Not to worry, there was plenty of wine at dinner- even though she's not a wine drinker, she made an exception on this night because it was free-flowing!:rotfl:

Oops! When I went to upload the pics from dinner, I realized I forgot to post the photos from the concierge lounge that afternoon- from when we went back to AKV to dry off and clean-up before the safari. This is what was out mid-afternoon-

Cookies-

You're back!!!! Were the boys surprised? Did you get to do everything you missed last time??

Our CMs brought us back to Jiko for dinner, where we were all seated together at a long table to enjoy the meal family style. This, too, is what they do on safris in Africa, which is why they explained Disney wanted us to have the experience. There were several courses, and each was paired with wine. Me likey the wine pairing!:thumbsup2 This was Loni and my second Jiko experience- we had eaten here last year. I think it was a first for Kara and Cammie. Being able to compare the 2, I will say I enjoyed this restaurant more ala carte, when it was just 2 of us, the food was a bit better. However, it was great to sit with all the safari peeps, there was even a "dormant" DISer sitting next to us! And all that wine...well, that was EXCELLent!! Especially when we really liked the wine so much and asked for more...and our server said "well, we're really not supposed to....but Ok!" and popped another cork for us- NICE!!!

First was a Taste of Africa-

Then more appetizers-

2009_052006summer0287.jpg

Followed by 3 different main courses with some of each for everyone (it was a LOT of food!!)

Maize crusted pacific halibut-

Oak grilled filet mignon-

2009_052006summer0291.jpg

My very full plate with the Chermoula Tanglewood Chicken-

All the wines we tried were delicious- I am so mad at myself, I had a menu with everything listed, but I don't know what I did with it! Hopefully the other DISmoms are more organized than me!

2009_052006summer0293.jpg

The chef came out to say hello, along with dessert-

2009_052006summer0296.jpg

House-made meyer lemon curd, pistachio creme brulee, and Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake with Lavendar Ice Cream (I think)-
2009_052006summer0297.jpg

Of course we had to have a picture of our AWESOME server with our stick kids!!!!

Our group-

2009_052006summer0299.jpg

It was a truly memorable evening- the whole safari was spectacular from start to finish, and it made me very, VERY happy to own AKV points so I can (hopefully) do it again one day!

Next up- the DISmoms and our last night together.:sad:
