I guess this is a vent/ question. Drinking glasses have started to come out with lip balm marks still on them. Ugh! We have been using the same soap for ages and I have been using lip balm FOREVER. First I thought that we might need rinse aid but since the glasses are actually still dirty, that can't be it.

Any ideas?

Change in the ingredients in the lip balm or the detergent? Is anything else still dirty?

Even though you are using the same stuff, it does not mean that they have not changed their stuff.

That is my first thought. If you research and find that is not the case, then perhaps maybe the water is not hot?

Good Luck with the hunt!

Did your detergent become phosphate free? Here in WA they recently banned phosphates in dishwasher detergent. I've heard that the phosphate free detergent does not clean nearly as well.

I wouldn't know because I stocked up when I heard the ban was going into effect.

Bingo!! the phosphate stuff just doesn't clean and something like lip balm would be exactly the kind of thing it wouldn't clean.

This would be my guess that even if the state hasn't declared it the store is getting this kind of detergent.

My DH came home from the store the other day as happy as a clam because he found 4 boxes of the stuff with phosphate in it! we usually use i of the cups with the good stuff and 1 cup with the new stuff trying to make it last longer.

My only thought would be has the hardness of the water changed? When our water softener is running low on salt, I know immediately because the dishes in the dishwasher do not come out totally clean.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. My soap is definitely phosphate free, we buy it on purpose! How progressive of your areas to ban it!

But you see we've been using this soap for ages and the problem just started this week.

Very wierd and annoying! Everything else seems to be coming out clean.

Do you run the hot water before you press start on your dishwasher? Is the filter clean so the water being circulated properly?

I had a problem when I started using all the newer type detergents (tablets, gel balls, etc). I had to go back to the power in box and I haven't had a problem since.
