I've always stayed in a studio so I've never had a need. We are staying in a 2br at VWL starting next Monday. We will eat every breakfast in the room each day. I plan to load the dishwasher each day before we head to the parks. Can someone tell me what type of dishwasher detergent it is and how much? Will I have enough for 7 days?

They usually put 2-3 containers/packages in there and you will get more on t&t day. I've heard you can ask for more from mouse keeping

We eat breakfast in each day as well; with four people we probably run the dishwasher every other day. I don't ever remember running out, and I suspect that Housekeeping can bring you more. (I don't think it is even on the pay-as-you-play list, so you won't be charged for it.)

We use half a pack per load and the dishes come out clean. That doubles your supply and we never run out even with daily washings.

Don't forget laundry detergent though. That is 1 load worth I pack the flat washer+dryer all in 1 sheets they fit great

That's a great idea since it will only be some rinsed dishes. It won't be a full load.

As to type, it isn't a consumer brand - its ecolab or some other chemical company that makes commercial detergent. Or it has in the past. We use half a pack as well. And sometimes we've arrived to a room where it looks like every cleaning has gotten two packs of detergent and a little thing of dishwashing liquid for a month and no one has used it. I suspect its two or three packets per cleaning, call if you need more.

Also, use 1/2 a packet in the Jacuzzi to clean it out before anyone gets in it. It helps clean out the jets.

I now avoid using crystalized dishwasher detergent in a jacuzzi tub. I read that it's acidic and eats away at the lines. Instead, I use liquid cascade, or just 1/4 cup of bleach depending on what I have on hand. Using hot water is key to getting it clean.

True, the powder is hard on the lines, but the bleach corrodes the polys in the hoses and seals too...Vinegar is safe but it smells and doesn't kill everything :(

Best solution: Disney needs to supply us with what they want us to clean the tubs with. I don't know a single person who doesn't want those lines cleaned out before using the tub.

It's far more risky to sit in a public hot tub. Personally, I've never worried about cleaning an in room jacuzzi at Disney World, or any other hotel, for that matter. And I'm pretty sure I've never suffered any adverse effects in over 10 DVC stays.

All that being said, last month I stayed at the Hotel Palomar in Chicago, and my suite featured a bathroom with a 2 person Fuji tub. Had traditional jets as well as the "champagne bubble" holes at the bottom of the tub (like the new tubs at VGF.) Also had an uber-cool self cleaning function that ran automatically after each use. After seeing the VGF models at SSR last week, I thought to myself that a self-cleaning tub would have been more appreciated by members than a TV in the mirror.

By the way, OP, we were in a Treehouse last week and I'm pretty sure the dishwasher detergent was Finish.

 Never cleaned out the jetted tub before using it. We are still alive.

As the Industrial Hygienists say, dilution is the solution to pollution.

You can't see a virus or bacteria but it can still kill ya. :thumbsup2

It may just be a coincidence but we come home from WDW about 75% of the time with a cold or flu. Don't know where or when we pick it up but we expect to catch some type of bug.

Then there was the time a few years ago where we got a good case of a food borne illness while at WDW. The lab at the hospital confirmed it and they notified the health department.

I've yet to come home from WDW with any illness at all. Many summers ago, I did get a fairly serious food-borne illness in Rome---the several of us at dinner who ordered the steak were violently ill that same night. The good news: the few days I was holed up in my hotel room with CNN World and BBC Sport as the only English-language TV channels available introduced me to the joy that is the Tour de France. I've watched it every year since. Great fun!

Haven't caught anything, however, have seen some nasty black stuff come out of the jets before  and ever since then, the minute we get in the room, I do a quick run through with the dish detergent just to be happy.
