Dishonesty in Disney World

On recent trip to Epcot we had a very negative experience in the Mexican restaurant. Our server, who was apparently dissatisfied with our gratuity, helped himself to ten extra dollars from our gift card.
No one in Disney World was able to resolve the issue. I expected people of higher 'character' (no pun) to work in Disney World. This was the only negative part of our trip. I recommend going to eat other places, they're better anyway and you might not be stolen from.

:scared1: Wow. I can't believe that. Did you get the name of the server? Is it on the receipt? I'd definitely be calling or writing to Disney about that one... even if you can't get that $$ back he should be in trouble :sad2:

you should most def. write disney an email! i had an issue a few years back at the music resort and wrote disney an email and they sent me four free tickets...they were very gracious and they will get it solved.

Honestly, I do agree that the server was in the wrong, and must face the consequences of his/her actions. But, Disney even though deemed the happiest place on earth, is not flawless. Take into account the resort check-in CM at SSR, who 'skimmed' over 150 credit card numbers. No ones perfect, just be careful when you complete your CC receipt, draw a solid line to the left the numeral, do NOT include dollar signs, make sure your CC# is not showing on the receipt. Just a few tips.

I had that happen one time at Rainforest Cafe in Chicago.

I was not a happy camper. Funny thing is, he ended up cheating himself because I was prepared to leave him a bigger tip than the one he took.

Definitely report this - it's stealing.

And don't assume that he did this out of spite over a too-small tip. He may be doing this as often as he thinks he can get away with it, hoping that most people wouldn't notice.

We were at a DVC pool and decided to order a drink at the pool.
I paid for the three drinks with my cc card and cash for the tip. I left 5 ones and the cc slip on the bar and as I was about to walk away the two people I was with... suggested we sit at the end of the bar. As we sat...after a few minutes the other bartender picked her customers cc slip up and slapped it down on the slip I left...Picked up the tip with the two slips and placed the money in her top left pocket... she handed my cc slip to the bartender ,that waited on me...he looked at my slip , showed it to her and shook his head...she than said "I know, I know, they all think that the tip is suggested". I was shocked...The bartender that waited on me... never came back to us...as he didn't think we left him a tip..She didn't know we were the people who left THAT cc slip and tip. I was fuming and didn't know what to do. It was our first day of vacation...So about two hours later... I went back to the bartender and asked for my cc slip and put these words in the tip section..PAID IN CASH.
I did this because... as we were sitting at our seats... the bartender who stuffed the money in her pocket... picked up the phone and called the front desk inquiring about a different guests credit card and check in information. ..After thinking about this situation ..I didn't think I should of left the tip section blank on my cc slip.
This is the only negative thing that has happened to us on disney property.

Given how much dishonesty there is out in the real world, I'm not surprised to see a good amount at WDW itself. It doesn't take much for Disney to be substantially better than average, given how bad the average is.

you shoudl always write something like "left on table" or 'cash". Never leave it blank or write a liner through it.

WOW...first thanks for the advice on leaving cash tips because I always just put a line through that section. Interesting when we were on our honeymoon we had a similar situation at JIKO which is part of the reason I won't go back there (bad food and bad service the other). We had the dining plan but had alcohol so we gave cash with our key to the kingdom. The cash total would have been almost 30% tip that our waiter put in his pocket and charged our room for our drinks....not what we wanted at all. The cash was for the drinks and the tip would have been left later. I always look at slips when they are brought back and when I saw this I asked where my change was and he told us that he charged the room. I immediatly said no that is incorrect that the cash was not his tip that I wanted my room credited now and wanted my full amount in cash change back. I then got the manager to check my account and made him aware of the situation...needless to say for his dishonest actions and trying to take a huge tip he got nothing that night and repremanded. dishonesty is everywhere and sadly can be at the happiest place on earth so always pay attention. We had such a great trip and while this happened we did not dwell on it, we just won't go back to JIKO.

That was my first thought exactly, many people on vacation do not bother looking at receipts(DH falls into this catogory)he will normallypay with his debit card and just signs away when the server comes back with it, not bothering to look at the charges - drives me nuts
