Dishes - the household chore that no one likes

I don't mind washing dishes but I hate drying them and putting them away :goodvibes I'm the same way with clothes, I don't mind the washing, drying and folding but I can't stand putting them away :rotfl:

Thats my DH. We struck a deal many years ago, I cook and put away and he washes. He drives me crazy because he can drag 15 mins of washing dishes into an all night affair, but it saves me from doing it so I have learned to ignore it and let him take all night. I do 95% of the laundry because while he will put it in the washer and dryer, it pretty much stops there!

I would love a dishwasher, but our kitchen is too small!

I let my dishes air-dry. Actually, I was taught in my daughter's preschool that the correct way to wash dishes so that they are properly clean and sterile is:

hot soapy water wash
hot water rinse
hot water bleach rinse
air dry

DH is lovely - he gets up the morning, makes me a cup of tea, and then puts away the dry dishes. Soooo nice.

And the comments about the laundry are too funny and too true!! DH thinks laundry is "done" once it's dry and outside the dryer. I waited once, just to see what would happen... he just kept picking through the basket of rumpled (but clean) clothes for the whole week until he had worn everything again and the basket was empty!!!

Very often the case here too, as well as clean laundry pulled from the basket rather than a drawer or closet. ;)

Drawers are for clothes? I though they were for storing books and closets for sewing machines. :rotfl: I dont put things away often (which explains why my winter coat is tossed in front of my storage errr Guest bedroom door. No comment on the guest bed being able to be slept in).

There are times when I feel like doing this... then I think of that show Hoarders... and I clean up!

I'll happily do the dishes if somebody will cook. I hate cooking! I do it every night, though, because eating out is too expensive and unhealthy. I do it to keep my kids alive...there's no joy in it!

Now cleaning and organizing? I actually love that!

LoL, I don't mind cooking, I just hate doing the dishes haha

I was at my friend's house years ago (ok 30 years ago) and volunteered to do their dishes. I didn't understand why I didn't mind as I hated doing ours. My friend told me that I hated doing mine because it was the same old dishes day after day as when you would finish them, the next day the same ole dishes are dirty again. Her dishes were different and not repititious for me. Whenever I am doing something monontonous (?sp), I always relate it to housework. A small timeframe of sense of accomplishment knowing the same mess will be back in 8 hours to do again.

No dishwasher here either - okay well there is - it's me. But I don't mind doing dishes. Even when we have people over and there's dishes piled everywhere and they have offered to help I say no because I would rather visit with them and just do the dishes later by myself when it's quiet and I can stare out the window and "veg".

:thumbsup2

We do have a dishwasher and I hate putting those away after the cycle as well. There is still handwashing to do since our pots and pans don't go into the dishwasher.

I just plain hate housework all together and seem to have passed that feeling unto the little ones as well!:upsidedow

I hate doing dishes! I'm allergic to something in dish soap (not sure what... I'm also allergic to some bath soaps too), so I have to be careful not to leave soap on my skin for too long. Always have to use gloves and/or a dish wand. We have a dishwasher now but it seems that I'm the only one who knows how to load it.

I hate dishes too. The worst part is putting them away. If the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, then the dirty ones stack up on the counter. I think to me it is just a never ending cycle that gets to me.

It sounds like there are a lot of people who prefer washing dishes to cooking. I don't get that. I would much rather cook.

at least in this house. We don't have a dishwasher and hand wash all the dishes. The tend to over-run the kitchen at times and it is making me bananas (they are rinsed before piling in the sink). It's one of those necessary chores that no one wants to do.

Is it the standing still for 20 minutes to complete the task? The kitchen is open, mostly, to the living room so it's not isolation.

Is it the "dish-pan hands"? Dishwashing liquid drys my hands and gloves get in the way.

Dunno what it is, but I would like a remedy....short of a dishwasher. The kitchen is small and I don't know that we have a place to add one without a total overhaul - which is not a bad idea, but far from in the budget.

...I don't mind washing to dishes - it's the [UGH! ]

LOL. Have pets? DD says it's useless to sweep because all the hair returns in a day and looks the same again. :dog::cat::cat::cat: I need to runthe vacuum every day, try to do it every other, often is left for twice a week.

Ugh! I well remember when my DD was learning to roll... and crawl... on our floor... we had a big, messy Shepherd-Lab cross and the hair :scared1:!!!

The baby would crawl on the floor and look like a lint roller. So for a few months, until she walked properly, we vacuumed every day.... twice a day.....

SOOO glad those days are behind us now.

I don't mind so much to do the dishes (we have a dishwasher), but I hate it if I have to unload the dishwasher first so I can put the dirty ones in.

cook, dishwasher and put them away, laundry, bathroom, vacuuming, yard maintenance, auto maintenance, pool maintenance, windows and I take care of DW's Persian because I really don't mind doing these things :goodvibes

....a white dog and navy carpeting do NOT mix....

I DO have a dishwasher, and I still wash my dishes by hand! Everyone thinks I'm whacked.

I'm with you on this. Putting dishes in always seems easier.

I may not LOVE doing dishes, but I don't mind. I just don’t feel the house is clean if there is a sink full of dirty dishes. We do have a dishwasher, but I wash all of them first with hot water and soap before placing them into the dishwasher. As my mother would remind me, 'it is a dishwasher that sanitizes dishes, it’s not a garbage disposal meant to deal with food.' It always stuck with me. I love a clean sink, kitchen counters, and the smell of citrus dish soap.

I read somewhere (Family Fun perhaps?) about a family where each family member had his/her own colored plate, bowl, and cup. You use it, you wash it. If a certain color was left out, Mom knew who to yell at. :) If your plate wasn't clean by the time of the next meal you didn't eat till it was clean, or you used your dirty plate.

This is the exact reason why i had 2 kids ............ one to wash and one to dry ;):thumbsup2

Actually, im a housekeeper in a small hotel and if im not too busy, sometimes i go in the kitchen and wash the dishes. I actually quite like it. But at home??? NO CHANCE!!!
