Dishes at DVC, FW Cabins, or Rental Condos

My dh and I have had an ongoing debate for years and maybe ya'll can help end it. :)

If you are renting a place with a kitchen, do you wash the dishes before you first use them to make sure they're clean?

:confused3

When we've stayed at DVC resorts, I think we've stuck with the paper plates & cups, and plastic utensils so it hasn't been an issue...

OH YEAH!!! Very hot soapy water.. everything gets washed.

the maid at the DVC resort are surpose to wash each and every dish in the setup of the room. So I think you are safe here.

I would assume FW is the same.

for offsite places I look at the condition of the room first. If it is cleaned - then I look at the dishes - sometimes I wash them othertimes we don't.

Our dvc experience we went paper and plastic route too. I looked at the dishes and thought Hmmm, I wouldn't feel right just leaving them, we don't have a dish washer so I don't know how to do that so, I using paper! ;) Your on vacation. We didn't do "big" cooking anyway. Largest item was a frozen pizza rolls. microwaved. But I loved the large fridge.

DVC members here! I usually give everything a quick wash....just in case. Like someone mentioned mousekeeping is supposed to wash everything between guest, but you never know. It usually isn't a problem, but once in a while we see where the CM's missed something in another housekeeping area. Since we have a dishwasher in the villa anyway, we just throw everything in we think we'll use. I also run it when we check out.

Just a little more info...paper and plastic isn't an option. We actually cook full meals when we're there.

We wash whatever we use before we use it. Mousekeeping is supposed to wash everything but I don't see everything fitting into the dishwasher at one time so I find it a little hard to believe. There is such a rush to get those rooms ready.

We've stayed in many timeshare condos with excellent experiences. We just check the dishes and utensils as we pull them out for use. If they don't appear spotless or if the kitchen (cabinets, counters, utensil drawers, refrig) appears in any way dirty, then they go right into the dishwasher. However, we've rarely had any problem. Most timeshares ask guests to load up the dishwasher before leaving at the end of the stay and housekeeping puts everything away.

I know these dishwashers don't get as hot as restaurant dishwashers. But I would not hesitate to eat from the plates offered at a friend's or neighbor's home. So I think it's a non-issue unless there is something obvious dried-on that the dishwasher just couldn't clean. Fortunately, we've stayed in really lovely places and most have been very, very clean.

I take a look at the general cleanliness of the unit, and then the dishes themselves. In DVC resorts and rental Condos both, I have never felt the need to wash the dishes first. Maybe we have been lucky, but everything has always been very clean!
