Disgusted with VA!!!!!

As u are aware I had to cancel my trip on 19 th sept due to davids death.Spoke to VA who promised refund or to reshedule flights for me free of charge as long as death cert covering letter proof of address sent in etc. three people I spoke to. Refund today of £247.47:sad:Apparently I was misinformed and thts my compensation.
I cannot believe I hv lost £1300+ when I could hv rebooked for free but obviously hadnt planned new dates but was told could go before end of june 2013:( i am so upset. Hv spoken to refunds today and although they were sympathetic they cannot guarentee anything.
I am disgusted tht after all I was told sent in the death certificate eticket etc Iv lost nearly everything.
Surely its their error for misinforming me:confused3 luckily I have the names and extensions of all the people I spoke to and I have prepared a stinking letter to their customer complaints department incase this woman looking into it doesnt contact me back today.
This was not a simple cancellation it was the result if a tragic situation . So fed up:sad:

I think I would go on VA facebook page and start shaming the company! It was World Suicide Prevention Day on Monday - the timing is awful. It sounds like they have refunded the taxes only. :(
 
All depends who deals with it. As something like this should be covered on insurance they are within their rights to do just what they have but get the right person and they will refund it all.
When I lost Mum 8 years ago I contacted Expedia (who I had booked with) they said a straight no, I had to claim on insurance (which Mum had not bought) I then contacted Continental direct, they were brilliant, I still have their reponse (below) they told Expedia they had to refund me, I got it back a few days later.
Might be more difficult for you wanting all the tickets refunding, we still went so it was only 1 ticket out of 5 they refunded.

My brother had a similar experince to Wayne. When my Dad died, my brother was due to fly out and he hadn't got insurance. He contacted the airline and they asked him to fax through a copy of the death certificate and they refunded him in full.

Can you reject the compensation and rebook instead?
 

I wanted to rebook and was told i could on production on death certificate whivh they hv had. Problem being three diff people misinformed me and i would hv just changed the dates and even payed the anendment fee . Just got to hope they hv some compassion its not like this or any death is planned.
 
To clarify They hv had death certificate. And proof of cohabiting etc. thanks for all the resposes. Charlotte will be so dissappointed if i hv to tell her again she cant go. I cant save for flights as well for food and tickets.:sad:

So sorry you are having to deal with this...I can't believe they did not just refund you fill price or even explain things clearly. Useles!!!

I know sarah i remember u lived in stourbridge. A guy on VA fbook page has offered to look into it for me. Will hv to see how it goes. I dnt like complaining but I hate being told one thing and then being gutted in another instance
 
I read it on VAs FB page earlier and it made me so mad, and to find out its a fellow diser made me even angrier :sad2:

I really hope VA sort it... They seem to be causing nothing but trouble at the moment.

Thankyou all so much for your support.iv had a bad few days but after telling charlotte last night we would be going im living in hope tht VA get a grip.

I am really sorry to hear you are going through a terrible time. Last year we had flights booked in June with VA to Orlando. 2 weeks before we were due to go my husband had a terrible accident which resulted in him being on ITU. We had not sorted out our holiday insurance. I contacted VA and was told that they would not give me a refund on flights and could only change my flights up to the August as you only have 12 months from date of booking to change the dates and this would also cost an extra £500. The hospital provided us with letters to state that DH was unfit to fly for 6 months and initially we still got a No. I kept phoning and pestering them until I found someone with a bit of compassion and in the end VA changed our flight to a date for when my DH was safe to fly and they wavered the £500 amendment cost as I said we could not afford to pay it. We had to pay the small different in ticket price but that was all. So my advice is keep going and keep calling as I almost gave up. Hope all gets sorted for you. X

I had huge issues with Virgin not wanting to be helpful when DH leave was cancelled by military orders and they said there was nothing I could do!
Well I wrote on the virgin fbook page ( nicely I must add) and one of the managers got back to me and said to email him all out info and flights etc, DH did just that and by that afternoon the guy from fbook had taken off all amendment fee's which totalled £720 for the 6 flights. I was do grateful as I called virgin that night and re-booked our flights for a total of another £725 as our flights went into half term! We would not have been able to go if it wasn't for that guy on fbook!

I hope he comes through for you as he really is lovely!
