This is gonna sound silly - but I was so upset and irritated with it.

I was driving to work, and as I came up on this corner, this little boy maybe 10-ish, was walking his golden retriever.

As I was coming up on him, I saw him pulling him really, hard (kept tugging on his leash, yank, yank, yank - and the dog was just walking, normal) - then he 'spanked' him, twice. And so I slowed down, and was watching (maybe the dog was acting up???) Nope.... dog was just walking along, and then he kicked him in the leg. :sad2:

So, I was already running late (I've stopped the car before to tell a Mom that her little girl - maybe 5 - was hitting their little Yorkie with a stick) so instead, I slowed way down - when I got his attention, I gave him a crinkled brow, and shook my head like this :sad2: :sad2: .

I obviously scared the kid (which I'm cool with) cuz he wouldnt look at me again.

But, WTH? It was a very bully-ish manor, and the dog was just trotting along, and every time he wacked him, the dogs head hung down. :sad1:

It just bugged me. :guilty:

That is sad and it would bother me too. I hate to witness any display of an animal being treated cruelly. There are too many people that dont deserve the love of an animal.

I hope you gave that little boy second thoughts.:thumbsup2

Makes you wonder what the kid is learning at home if he thinks it is OK to treat an animal that way.

Perhaps the dog was doing something you couldn't easily see - passing gas, mumbling obscenities, or something.

I'm not fond of deliberate cruelty towards animal or man, but when it is directed towards those who are cannot easily fight back... :sad2: truly awful.

CR - If you've seen the boy walking the dog once, chances are you will again...

agnes!

Good point. :scratchin

I'll have to talk to the Mom, like I did last time. I'll be known as the crazy anti-dog abuse lady in the neighborhood, who follows little kids to their house, to stop the nonsense. LOL!

It was so icky. The dog would be walking, head all high and *whack* and his head would go low. Made me sad. I know how much Charley enjoys his walks, and I was feeling so bad for this doggie. :sad2:

I've noticed this especially with very young kids and large dogs. It seems to be a power-trip thing with them. My shepherds love kids. But every now and then we'll get some little snot who will come up and just start beating on one of my dogs pretending to be petting them hard.

That's horrible Cat!

I'm glad you did what you did. I agree with PP - he's either learning that from home, or from violent games he's playing.

Poor dog! :sad2:

I'd be mumbling obscenities too, if someone kept hitting me when I'm trying to enjoy my walk! ;)

I don't know, I would've been more worried that the kid was walking ALONE. In this day and age, any nutjob could've come up and kidnapped him. :sad2:

This is probably not a popular opinion, but I dont buy this. Everyone always likes to blame punk little kids on Tv / Games - whatever. But you know what? My boys watched R movies (no sex, but like Die Hard, or Terminator, Speed, etc - shoot 'em up movies) and they werent / arent like that.

I had to pull over when Joey was like 6 - there was a big praying mantis on the windshield. I said I was gonna turn on the wipers and shoot him off of there. Joey got upset "NOOOO! Get him off Mom!!!" :crazy2: I had pull over and touch that thing, and gently place him in the grass. :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

I think examples like this, are a lot of what PP's said - perhaps it's the attitude at home?? I dunno....

Yes - this is the vibe I got. :sad2:

Ehhhh - we're in a good neighborhood (I know anything, could happen anywhere) And besides, he had a big dog with him, that would have protected him to death, even though he was beating on him. :rolleyes2 :sad2:

REGARDLESS, the kid was out by himself. Any wacko could've kidnapped him. THAT would've been MY first thought, but that's just me.

True, but I'm sure you continued to parent your kids. Some parents use these things like permanent babysitters. But I agree, it's not the only factor.

That is just sickening. I think I'd have gone ahead and called local animal cruelty.

:confused3 Kids do dog walking around here. Should we keep the tweens locked up?

I got into it with my neighbor a few years back. Her son was behind bushes from her house- basically in my yard. I was washing dishes and noticed him and the dog. Not thinking anything I went about it. Then noticed him lying on top of the dog. Dog laying down calmly- boy then punches the dog in the stomach several times. I couldn't believe what I was seeing- I yelled for him to cut it out. They took off.

The mother actually yells at me- saying they play rough with the dog. It's the way they play. I said "then why was he hiding doing it?" It was a yelling match. imagine that:rotfl2: But no way was I going to let her live in la la land about beating a dog being "just rough play"

The OP said "10-ish"...to me, that's 10 years old. That's too young to be out by themselves.

Kids can get kidnapped at ANY age. It's naive to think otherwise.
