Where is everyone???????????????What is everyone up to???????????

Getting ready to give my presentation tomorrow at the Diocese's In-service workshop. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon - about 25 teachers in each session. "Approaches to Teaching Literature in PreK to Grade 3" very impressive, huh?! :lmao: I'm doing a "Best of...." - my favorite lesson plans - but I'm used to an audience of age 3 through 8. :goodvibes (actually age 3 through 13 - but this will be geared more to the primary grades)

Dana is loving high school and doing well. :cutie: So much more homework and projects than what she is used to, but so far she seems to be keeping up to speed. I'm glad I'm not working, so I can help her with her organization of tasks. She loves Biology and World History, high 90's on both big tests so far. And the thing that is really amusing me, is that she is doing very well in LATIN! She's got the stereotypical old nun as a teacher - the other day, Dana came home and said, "Mom! Sister hit the desk with a ruler today!" As long as it was her own desk and not Dana's, we are ok. :lmao: She's looking forward to being in the Fall Drama in November and her next "schooling show" for Horseback riding.

Bob is well and working hard, as usual. ;)

Mocha likes his new routine of waiting for the school bus on the front porch....
Love to all! Renee

We have started homeschooling here and moving right along.

We are still waiting to organize Michael's surgery. That's holding up everything right now really.

Not much else rally other than I may disconnect our internet and just start using the computer lab at the library. We shall see.

Hey everybody! I've pretty much been away from the DIS since our vacation, but I missed it, so I'm back! How is everyone doing?

just wondering when you all were planning your next trips to WDW???????????

I think that's part of the reason I've been staying away... no trip in the works for the first time in 3 years! :sad1: I'm not sure when we'll be back at this point either. We are taking a cruise in January (not Disney, Princess). My whole family is going - mom & dad, aunts, uncles, cousins. It should be fun. And we'll be celebrating my 30th birthday (Boo to turning 30).

Friends---
If you don't mind, take a look at my recent post on my TR continuation... It's easier to paste the link and let you read it there, vs. typing it all out here.

Read, learn, and give extra special kisses to the ones you love!

Wow, Courtney, I'm so glad everything is ok! And pregnant???!!! Congratulations!!! I missed so much being away.

Between working, monogramming, planning trips (I've booked 3 so far), homework, volleyball etc I don't find too much time to Dis anymore!! I haven't posted on my TR in over a month!! I've got to finish it...I only have 2 more days to post.

Here's my news for today...earlier this evening Amanda came in and told me that she was itching and had me look at her chest and back...guess what it is...chicken pox!! She has had the shot and the booster so hopefully it will be a light case. This week is the end of the grading period and she is supposed to have a 9 week test in each one of her classes...so it's not a good week for her to miss but she'll have to. I'm going to take her to the dr Monday to get an excuse and then I will email her teachers and see if I can pick up her work and try to arrange a time for her to make up her tests.

I hope you all are having a good weekend!

Wow! How old was she when she got the shot? Dana didn't have the shot until she was a bit older... my pedicatrian wanted to wait to see if she got it "naturally", but then at a certain age, he vaccinates for it.

It's so frustrating when they have to miss important things at school! Dana's high school workload is so much heavier than in elementary/middle school, that I dread the thought of her getting a cold or something!! :sad2:

This weekend, she's writing a three page, typed single spaced essay for Theology, creating a mosaic for Latin, (remember, I am CRAFT IMPAIRED!), writing an outline for her English research paper, studying for a major Biology test, writing a paragraph & preparing an oral presentation on a current event for Biology, and she already completed the History and Algebra homework. I'm exhausted just thinking about it!!

Hope Amanda feels better. Oatmeal baths are the best remedy for the itch, if it gets really bad. (I had chicken pox at age 17 - in bed for a week. ugh)

She was 1 year when she got the shot and then she got the booster last year. So far the itching has been too bad. The spots are just on her chest, back and under her arms so far. She did do an oatmeal bath last night and then I covered her in Caladryl Clear gel. She had a slight fever last night too but she hasn't had one yet today.

Oh, I don't look forward to High School so far Amanda hasn't had homework on the weekends. That is a lot to do!! Good luck on the mosaic!! I'm just worried about what they are going to do about Amanda's grades since Thursday is the last day of the grading period...do you suppose that they will give her an incomplete until she can return to school & take the tests? I have to take her to the dr tomorrow so we can get an excuse for the week.

I'm here again. Renée gave me a swift kick in the booty to get over here so here I am. WhatEVAH.

The varicella vaccine (chicken pox) is mandatory for children entering grade school. It also is given at age 1 now. If a child is entering preschool they must have received that vaccine. It is one of the standard ones now.

See how much they have progressed even when Dana was younger? It's amazing.

Okay ... back I go. Maybe I'll resurface some day again when I have a few minutes to spare. Too many TRs ... too many TRs ...

Brother gets married next Saturday. I'm a little excited for him.

Yep, that's me - kicking people in the booty... :cool1:

My pediatrician wanted to wait a few years to see the studies - when it first came out, he felt that it was less risky to get the disease naturally as a child - but after there was enough data to prove the benefits, he started giving it younger. Once Dana was a little older, he felt the risks of NOT being vaccinated outweighed being vaccinated. (especially since the older you get, the less likely you will come in contact with it since so many HAVE been vaccinated - and if you DO get it as an adult, it is horrendous!) He was also worried about breakthroughs even with being vaccinated, which is why I guess they are now doing boosters. At the time, he felt there were too many "unknowns". I adore this doctor - he always listens and explains... he's been wonderful - I only wish he wasn't a pediatrician - I would want to go to him!

Hope the weather continues for your brother's wedding - the past 2 weeks have been glorious! Our anniversary is Oct 12 - we had beautiful weather 21 years ago!! :bride:

It's going to be flipping cold (I hear 59 degrees high) for the wedding and they are having an outdoor wedding. They are freaking nuts but it's really my brother's fiance who wants it outdoors. He's just going along for the ride. I have a sleeveless outfit that I had to run out to Macy's afterward to buy a shawl to keep me warm. At least the reception is indoors. I guess we can deal with the cold, just not rain. So, we're praying for sunshine ... :confused3

Have a happy anniversary if I don't get to wish you one on Friday! 21 years ago... I was just a baby ... :rolleyes1

FYI, although states tout that the vaccines are mandatory (and use that language), every state has an exception whether medical, philosophical and/or religious. We don't vaccinate in this household and our doctor supports us in this decision.

I hope Amanda doesn't get it to bad. I had it at the same time my sister and several of my cousins got it...while my mother was out of the country. Now that was fun! I have a small scar at my temple to show for it.

It is HOT here. It's nearly 90 degrees today. I had to turn the a/c back on. We sweated for two days but when I heard it would be another two to three days I gave in. Then it's supposed to get cold! Crazy fall!

Renee, good luck with all that homework! I'm sure Dana will get it all done, lickety-split.

DM, have fun at the wedding!

I just had to share that I just had TWO bowls of chocolate brownie ice cream and a banana. I suppose that would make it a two banana, two scoop (ok, maybe six scoop) split. Yum! Boy, am I a pig! LOL

I'm curious now as to why you chose not to vaccinate. I am not judgmental, just curious.

I had chicken pox as a kid the same time as my bro. I have some scars to show from it. I also had Mumps as a tweenie. That was really bad. But I'm fine now.

I've got some Edy's Fudge Tracks just calling my name in my freezer. I like to have a bowl after the kids go to bed so they bug me and want to share. I don't like sharing my ice cream! :snooty:

Its an awfully long discussion but the short of it is that Michael had some serious reactions to what we believe was his vaccinations and after doing research we decided that the risks of reactions to vaxes were more dangerous (IMHO) then the actually diseases. Lots of research out there and if you read the actual studies and not just the summaries, you'll be surprised at what you find and how they came to the conclusions they did. Left me scratching my head. :confused3

Just got back from shopping at Kohl's. They have lots of stuff on clearance and I bought some Holiday presents! Yeah!

Good thing you chose to homeschool with not having vaccines. While they say there are exceptions to the rule, I am sure it is a nightmare to actually register and get those exceptions allowed. We had to have the Dr fill out the permission slip for Avery's asthma meds 3 times when the school year started... and it is only an emergency inhaler! They bury you in paperwork for everything here.

We have been very busy lately. Between cub scouts, training to start Avery's Daisy scout troop, church, and work... I never stop! We went down to Savannah for the weekend with the in-laws. We had a good time. Wynn's brother has a small airplane, and he and his buddies at the airport had a "Hanger Party." The BBQed a pig, and had burgers and dogs, everyone brought sides and beer. Wynn took his sound system down and had music out there, and we took outdoor toys for the kids. The pilots were giving plane rides (before the beer!) to everyone... Tucker and Avery went up 3 times! It was a lot of fun!

Today is Avery's birthday... she is 5! Today I am feeling a touch of the baby blues. I hope I get over it quickly! We had her cake in Savannah yesterday, because tonight will be nuts! I am dropping the kids at cub scouts with Wynn, then going to a Girl scout leader meeting. We always get McDonald's for dinner since it is 8:15 when we get out of scouts, then we will open Avery's birthday presents after dinner.

Anyway... hope everyone had a great weekend!

Avery!!!

Happy Birthday, Avery!!:bday: party:

Homework is done, except for the Latin mosaic, but that isn't due until next week, so we decided not to rush it. LOL :goodvibes

Had wonderful news today - Bob got a promotion. woo hoo! I'm so proud of him - and very happy that his hard work has been acknowledged! Gets an extra week of vacation with the promotion, so I'm very thrilled! More trips to plan!! (Those who know Bob, know he is a man of few words... my strong, silent type... he emailed me the news today - and the "subject line" read "Happy Dance" ... that is SO not like him! :cool1:  :cool1: )

Hope the weather cooperates for the wedding this weekend, DM. :bride:

I just want to pop in and say I love this thread. We met a bunch on a cruise in 2002 and continue daily posting. We consider ourselves family. Love that there is more of us around! Back in the days, a thread could only have so many pages before a new one had to be started. We are now on our third thread with no worry about having it closed.

Sorry.....back to your thread.
