Disers seem to have given up on National...???

I have a National reservation coming up soon.

I have "given up" on Alamo. I had a horrid experience once and decided that I am willing to pay for service. So far National has NOT adopted the Alamo model so I will use National.... A small savings is not worth me being mad enough to strangle someone! LOL!

Same exact vehicle for the same days was $60 less with Alamo, so we're going to take our chances in April. We've always used National because of Emerald Reserve, but $60 is a big difference.

Guys it isn't all about the rates. I'll take my Hertz #1 Club Gold program over better rates any day. 1) I get dropped off, into my car and leave 2) #1 club gold keeps all new vehicles. when they get old they go over to standard renters. 3) my vacation time is moiney and I save tons of time with them. I've rented over 100 times with hertz and never evn once has there been anything but steelar vehicles and service. If you choose to bargain hunt you will get bargain probelms.

BUT hertz is offsite at MCO. i'm not spending my vacation time shuttling over there with my kids/carseats/luggage etc.

time is money :smokin:

I also really liked EA. But.... I just got a mid SUV for $109
for next week with Alamo (7 days). This is after all the taxes.

EA was $50.00 more.

I've always been a National fan. I got an Executive Club card through work. However, my reservation for June is $193. I also have a reservation with Alamo for $148. I'm hoping National comes down, even for $20 more I would go with them for convenience and the upgrade, but $45 is alot.

I booked our December car (and, yes, it'll probably change a hundred times) with Alamo and the starting rate was cheaper than with National. I used the came type of code, coupons, Contract I.D. for both and National's rate was $20 more expensive before the deductions. The Alamo coupon was better also. For Alamo, you got one free day and for National you got $20 off. So by the end of the transaction, National was almost $30 more than Alamo. This was with Sam's Club but even using different codes from different sources, Alamo is still the cheaper one.

Until National comes down on their rates, I'll go with the cheaper rate.

Fair statement. Hertz is about a 5 minute ride from the airport and the shuttles run almost constantly. I get droped off, read the board, go to my parking spot and leave. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes.

I actually just booked a minivan off national (I've been watching, it hadn't been less than $380 via Amex, EC). I went directly to their website and they had a promotion, I clicked & got $290 total for a week. However this wasn't with my Emerald Club, so I called to add my # to the reservation...and the price dropped to $283.

I'm so happy...I had budget for like $360, but really wanted National.

For some weeks, a minivan with Alamo is currently $104, with all taxes/fees included! That is with, for example, the Costco member contract ID and $25 coupon. We just got this rate for May, and it is still available right now.

I loved National, too, and used them exclusively for our last 5-6 trips. I loved Emerald Reserve and picking our own van. But the minute they started charging double and triple what Alamo was (and just exactly why IS that, since they're sister companies?), I signed up for Alamo QS, so my 5-minute stop in the garage kiosk will save me almost $200. :woohoo:

Yes, it is and so far I have NEVER actually been delayed by Hertz. Last time I rented from National it took 20 minutes to check me in. by that time I could have checked in at Hertz and taken the bus back.

Hertz is actually my first choice at MCO. Good service, good cars etc.

I don't think that there is ANY amount of savings that can convince me to go back to Alamo....

CarolA is right on with this. I've had hundreds of rentals with Hertz and never a problem. I've had 3 with Alamo and had one problem. It isn't always about the price.
