Hello,
I am a fellow Dis'er and I am planning on visiting Virginia Beach (actually Sandbridge Beach) in mid June. I really have a lot of questions for someone out there that has visited this area before and/or lives there.
All help appreciated!!!!
Thanks,
Tam

I don't live ther,e but visit often as my brother and his family live there. We are going again at the end of this month.

I live about 45 minutes away. I can help, but it depends on what you want to know. ;) Ask away. :D

i live in poquoson va near sandbridge
during summer to labor day no dogs allowed on beach
sandbrige is a good beach:sunny:

Lived in VA beach a little over a year ago. Depending on what you want to know, I may be able to help. Just ask! :)

I live about 1/2 hr away in Yorktown. Just moved here but might be able to help.

I would like your opinions on where to or not to eat. We love fresh seafood and are looking for the must not miss places. It doesn't have to be a big chain.....your guys opinions are all I need.

What is a must do or must not do?

Like I mentioned earlier....we have rented a house at Sandbridge Beach. I know this is a small drive from VB but we are looking forward to a relaxing and "Wonder"ful vacation but still exposing the girls (6 & 8) to the best parts of the areas.

All advise appreciated!!!!

You guys are the greatest.

Sincerely,
Tam

Then you must live near me because it takes me 45 minutes to get to Virginia Beach. :teeth:

Sandbridge! Haven't been there yet, but I have driving directions. LOL! Was supposed to meet someone there a couple weeks ago until it fell through. He says it's the nicest beach in the area...if you're sticking to the VB area. Seafood? He mentioned someplace in Hampton. Don't know of anything there. I'm sure there are others who do know. Have fun!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmm...DIS meet anyone? :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

timswoman-- I sent you an e-mail!!

My uncle has a camper at North Bridge just outside of Sandbridge. One place to not miss if you love seafood so much is Captain George's Seafood Buffet. There is one in Pungo (ask someone in Sandbridge how to get there because I get out there and back from Norfolk and that's about it). It's a bit pricey - $25 a person (maybe lower for kids) but it's awesome and I don't even like fish. You will NOT walk away hungry.

That area has built up so much that you find several grocery stores, a huge WalMart (might even be a Super WalMart), and many other stores. I think this is on Princess Anne (sorry, can't remember for sure) which I think is still considered in VA Beach. They also have several chain restaurants there as well - IHOP, KFC, and either a Chichi's (sp?) or Applebee's or something like that.

Also in the Sandbridge area there are some small "malls" that have homerun shops. Those are fun to go to just to see what they have. VA Beach is about 20 minutes from Sandbridge but it's all lower speed limits. But worth it to go and visit the beach and the "strip" - walk up and down. You will be about 1 hr and 15-30 minutes from Williamsburg, also a must do if you can.

Hope this helps.

I'm at work. I'll post some links for seafood places when I get home. I don't think we've ever had any bad seafood at the beach. There is a chain that is really good. Captain George's. THey are about $25 a person but really good and they king crab legs on the buffett as well.

When you get to the beach, make sure you pick up the visitor's guides. They have all kinds of coupons in there.

Capn Georges is all U can eat Buffet...and WONDERFUL, if you are looking for more of dinner served Lynnhaven Fish House is good too...pricey but good. It is closer to Shore Drive near Great Neck.

I found a map of the area for ya. My uncle is at North Bay Shore campground and I believe at the corner of Sandbridge Rd and Princess Anne is a nice little farm stand with AWESOME tomatoes and peaches (depending on when you are going). They also have bags of Whitley's peanuts in the shell that are great! If it's not at that corner than it's at the corner of Indian River and Princess Anne.

The stores I mentioned before would be up in the white Princess Anne or General Booth or Damn Neck (I know IHOP is on Damn Neck now that I see the map). When we go down we are coming from Norfolk. It's easy to get turned around down there but it's such a beautiful and scenic area.

Here's the map:

I used to live in VA Beach years ago, and my favorite restaurant was Rudee's on the Inlet. I can't for the life of me think how to get there, but I think I remember it being at the very end of Atlantic Blvd.

Are there any mom & pop restaurants or shops that shouldn't be missed?
We are a small auto dealer in KY and I appreciate the small stores and would love to patronize the locals.

Thanks,
Tammy

We were just at the Edgar Casey Foundation today. Ran into it by accident. LOLOL! But I'm glad this thread surfaced. I couldn't find it the last day or two. Here's some things for you...
