Do all passengers place their luggage outside their door on the last night?

Most do, not all.

At lot depends on the port.

Port Canaveral is fast unloading and there is little point not putting it out as they will have it in the terminal faster than you.

Places like Vancouver, San Pedro, its an option as luggage is taken off slower.

Barcelona is fast. Dover is fast.

Please remember do not pack your day clothes... unless you want to debark with your pajamas.

Yes, Vancouver offers a walk-off option. However expect your luggage to piled high at breakfast entrance as they need to keep the aisles and seating areas clear for servers.

On our trip, the luggage outside the entrance to breakfast was neatly placed along the hallway wall. It wasn't any kind of high stack. We bring carry on only, no problem.

Where do you get your luggage after the disembark?
When you disembark you go through some kind of warehouse, pick up your luggage in the section they assigned (you'll have tags like Purple Mickey Mouse, Green Goofy, etc) then, you'll go through customs and get out.

We have never put our luggage out the night before. I don't know why people do. Wheeling it off the boat isn't a big deal to us. We do travel pretty light with one suitcase for the 3 of us.

Some groups cannot handle 3 small kids and 5 suitcases from their room, to breakfast, and off the ship easily.

I personally love it if I can find an elevator on debarkation morning that isn't already crammed with 2 people and 4 suitcases before arriving on my deck.

We always do. At PC (our main port) the luggage is so easy to get to, and we stay on the ship as long as we can that morning, it's a really pleasure to not be pulling luggage around for an hour or more (we'll leisurely go to Cabanas, eat there, take the long route to the atrium, sit a while and watch the crowd, etc. etc.

I think others may do it because, unlike you, they have a lot of luggage. Since it is so convenient when you disembark, that is far better for them than wheeling it around and off the boat.

How long are you able to stay-sitting a while, watching the crowd.... I don't know what time I should request our taxi?
Thanks

Please, if you have boarded or disembarked in Galveston, share your experience and/or any advise that may help a party of 5 including a 7 year old.

The absolute latest DCL allows debarkation is 9:30. That's the time DCL told us we needed to be off for the first leg of our B2B. I figure that's the "official" time.

We usually stay until almost 9:30. I have not seen an official maximum time, but I've seen posters here state (really a guess) that the official time is 9:30. That time has always worked for us. We kind of watch the line and get in it as the end is leaving the atrium.

You can barely maneuver thru the ship to get to and from breakfast as is that morning add a whole lot of people with one or two rolling suitcases on top of the ones that already have them plus the strollers and no one would get any where. Since the bags are so easy to find once slowly getting off the ship to the luggage spot prior to customs I'll take letting them cart it off for me.

Of course if you're in a hurry because of flights and such I get that you need to keep it and take it off with you to expedite the process.

In addition to your day clothes, also keep a bag on hand for your pajamas and toiletries, etc... Once time we put all our luggage out and kept no big bags... Thankfully guest services had a bag to give me.

we always leave our luggage outside the night before and leave with just one small rolling carry on for pajamas and necessary toiletries just because it is easier to do we also use porters to helps us while going through customs.

We cruised out of Galveston in 2013. It was my husband, two 4 yr old daughters, and I. We left our luggage outside our door the night before (very helpful). Sitting in our designated area on the ship waiting for our group to be called to actually disembark took almost 2 hours (our girls played & danced with other kids & had fun). Our mistake was that we ended up with our loose cash packed & did not have any easily accessible for a porter. BIG MISTAKE!!! After disembarking we quickly & easily located our luggage & then stood in one of several customs lines for what seemed like forever trying to wrangle 1 gigantic suitcase, 2 medium suitcases, 3 carry ons, 2 sets of little girls hands, and our pouch containing the info we needed to get through customs - that was not fun

1. Use a porter - find one right after disembarking & locating your luggage
2. have a mental note of ways to entertain your son....such as playing 'I spy', making a contest of spotting people in shoes of every color of the rainbow, or whatever you can come up with.
3. Stay upbeat & smile a lot! Disembarking & traveling home can be stressful. I needed to remind myself again & again that our trip home would be a whole lot better with happy kids than with kids who picked up on our stress & we're all too ready to have melt downs after being overstimulated throughout the cruise. Make the trip home sound exciting & treat it as part of your adventure.
4. Have a couple items/toys your son can have fun with easily accessible in a carry on. Expect these 2-3 things to be in & out of the carry on again & again.
5. Consider ordering room service items the day before that you can have for breakfast in you stateroom the morning of disembarkation (or bring granola bars from home).
6. Have a few prepackaged snacks & easy to reach sports bottles in your carry on.
7. Wear light pjs the night before that take up very little room in your carry on. I've heard some people pack old stained up tees with arm pit holes to wear the last night & then throw them away that morning.
8. Make all of your luggage easy to recognize before the cruise.

we do it a bit different...By the end of the cruise I am not eager to go eat the same breakfast AGAIN. We keep our luggage and get off as soon as they are cleared.

There is literally no line at customs and we are in the car, out of the terminal and at Walt Disney World usually by 9:30. The times when our room was ready at the resort in the morning have been fantastic.

I did in Octiber 2013... but I am a solo traveler so my info might not be helpful.

I prepaid parking in galveston and got there early in morning and had no trouble parking and getting into terminal. I do not remember my PAT but I did not have to wait too long (I was joining a group of six people with three kids 5-7 ish so I was solo but not sometimes!). They waited in terminal long line for kids club bands but I believe you can do this on boat.

Disembarking- I did not leave my bag out the night before. I did go to MDR breakfast and there was a neat line of bags at entrance not in anyone's way. I had early breakfast then walked off with virtually no wait. easy peasy.

We haven't had to tip a porter up front. They help you find the bags, so you maybe could have stopped and found the cash in your checked bag after s/he helped you find it

Also maybe don't pack cash in a bag that's going out of your eyesight. Yikes.

Anyway, we tip once we are done with the porter's services, with lots of time to scrounge for money.

That said, put money aside! DS and I had to wait at the port in the bonechilling cold in January while dh returned the car because we only had the cash to properly tip the shuttle driver for one person. Brr. And I had my puffy coat and pants on even. Plenty of people were in Bahamas clothes and were quickly turning blue.
