Discuss what Disney is doing wrong part II

I think Disney is doing EVERYTHING wrong.

It is awful. Disney is a terrible terrible terrible place to visit. Do not waste your vacation $$ there. It is a complete rip off. Customer service is terrible, everything is overpriced, the place is filthy and disgusting, and the rides are crap. The place is falling apart, on one trip I watched an entire Country Bear show, with one of the bears missing an arm! The food is disgusting and there are huge waits for all of the restaurants. The hotel rooms are tiny for the price. Magic schmagic, there is no magic.

Universal is a much better deal, their parks are just as nice as Disney and the rides are better. Next year they are opening up Harry Potter! If you stay at a Universal resort you get front of the line privileges.

I think everyone planning a trip to Disney should go to Universal.

Stay away from Disney parks......esp in Sept from the 13th to the 19th, I hear Disney will be esp. terrible then, trust me, stay away.

Disney = Bad

You're a terrible liar... I can see you smiling all the way up here! :lmao:

Yes, I got the fact that it was a joke when I reread it. I guess I was so irritated at how mean it was that I missed the joke. I am a huge Disney fan and I understand criticism and that some things have went downhill recently and I just misread her post. Sorry Sleeping Becca!
No prob!

It was totally a joke!

Still, I really did watch a Country Bear show with one of the bears completely missing an arm!

I love Disney just as much as the rest of you nuts, and continue to give them a ridiculous amount of money with regularity.

When did I say it was?

No, you did not say that. I was being sarcastic. I am on your side and agreed with and liked your post. I was saying I am looking for the "Discuss What Disney is Doing Right" thread, but all I found was "discuss what Disney is doing wrong" thread. It's sad that there isn't a companion thread to this saying "Discuss What Disney is Doing Right." Make sense?

You do know it is a Disney fan site, right?:confused3

Of course, I do. That's exactly why I am saying I am surprised there's such a looooooong thread about what's WRONG with Disney.
I think you all have misunderstood my posts in this thread. I am sorry if I was not more clear in what I was trying to say.

Any publicity is a good publicity after all.;)

That would be so much better than the rubbish the Disney Channel is currently showing. While waiting for Illuminations one night, a six year old girl started chatting to me about Disney and asked if I watched the Disney Channel. When I said "when I can" she started chatting away about Hannah Montana and the Suite Life which I can't stand! At her age, she should be watching cartoons!

Are you kidding? You must not have kids right now. Disney knows EXACTLY what they are doing w/ thier programming. My 3yr old DSS "Troy" for Halloween last year and DSD (at age 5) year before that was "Gabrella". My 3yr old wants to grow his hair out like Troy. They had HSM themed bday parties this year (yes both of them), DSD has her room decked out in it at our house and I think at her other house too. Our children plus neices/nephews and every child I know under 10 can name every disney channel charector on HSM, Hannah, Wizards, Suite Life and ICarly. They can pick them out of a lineup and give you thier personal stats. Disney has his the sweet spot w/ thier programming and merchandising they are getting kids addicted like never before, I doubt we will ever see a rise of cartoons in our lifetime again that gets kids wrapped up in them like this.

ok back on Topic, sorry had to add my $.02

I love Disney, it's my happy place, but there are a few things I've noticed.

1. They don't offer much in the plus size women's department for clothing and what they do offer isn't cute. I'm not even really that big size 14 on the bottom and 16/18 on the top. :confused3 But I have to buy mens shirts because I can't fit into the women's ones. :sad1:

2. Need to have more merchandise from some different rides like Ellen's Energy Adventure and TTA. In fact, I'm not sure why they don't have a gift shop at the end of EEA. There are a lot of us that are getting older that watched Bill Nye the Science Guy as kids and think he's awesome! If they had shirts with him on it, I'd so buy it! I also want one with the "Paging Mr. Morrow" quote on it. :thumbsup2

3. Offer some smaller entrees at TS restaurants. Not everyone can eat all that food. I generally order kids meals.

4. Not sure if it's true, but I saw a nasty rumor that the Coke Slushies are gone from Pop Century. That's the whole reason I stayed there. They rocked!!!!!!!!!! Except the machine was generally broken the last time I was there...

5. Honestly, get rid of Davy Jones on POTC. The last time I was there, he was broken almost all of the 18 days I was there. Not cool. :sad2:

I'm sure I can think of more, but my brain is tired.

ITA! I am not a smoker and I think it's a disgusting habit but I do not think it should be banned. A lot of people smoke, unfortunately, but I don't want to be in line with someone who is freaking out because they haven't had a smoke in a while, I wouldn't want someone telling me I can't give into my temptation on soda and I certainly wouldn't want a huge smoke plume at the gates of every park.

I agree. As a former smoker who was there when it wasn't strictly enforced and there since the new 'area's were instituted I am still in favor of the smoking areas. Eliminating it all together would seriously hurt park attendance, I know when I smoked I wouldn't have ever went (smokers know 12 hours in FL sun, lines, and screaming kids w/ no smokes is recipe for disaster!), and my dad would never entertain the idea of going now if smoking was banned. A couple sports tried doing this last year (Nascar comes to mind) and lets just say it was quickly changed. There are more people than smokers that heartily disagree w/ a complete ban. But the past 2 years (1 as smoker, another as non) I have noticed little to no enforcement of the 'area's. Disney was great on this when the policies first came out and when the resorts went non smoke but they seemed to have dropped the ball. My theory: Cm fear of retaliation/verbal abuse if they pick the wrong person to tell to put thier smoke out. I do wish they would enforce it though. This would be one of the few (and very very minor) complaints I have.

I know that anywhere you go, there is always room for improvement.
I also notice that there are less things available in larger women's sizes. But then when I think of it, most department stores have 3 floors dedicated to the "misses" department and perhaps a 1/4 of a floor for plus sized. Now if the media is correct and half of us are obese and just waiting for the rest to get there, then shouldn't there be 3 plus floors and a half floor of misses?
Anyway, I did find some good things in my size and larger sizes than I would need also.

Now, we went to Sesame Place, which is pretty fun to run around at for a day. Price to get in for 1 day was 50.00 (you can get a 2nd day free if you go back the next day). Not sure I need to go there 2 days in a row. Within 15 minutes of entering, we have been pushed and shoved by others. They "added" the count's castle which is cool, but to do it they took away 2 pools. They "added" cabanas, so of course they took the lockers near the pools away. So if you are dressed and change to your swim suit in the changing room, you walk all the way across the park, change then walk all the way back to pay 15.00 for a locker plus a 5.00 key deposit and get a locker. So now we are hungry, a double cheeseburger and fries (smaller than a kids small at one of the big burger joints) and a drink for about 10.00. I got a veggie burger, which apparently does not have fries for the same 10.00. Please don't try to sit at a table, because no table has the chairs for it since everyone needs to get a chair for each kid they have, although none of those kids feel the need to sit in them nor do the parents feel the need to reign in those kids who are now knocking everything off the condiments bar.
We wanted to get some dippin dots ice cream, 6.00 for the larger size to share. Except unless you had exact change, you weren't getting any. So nixing the 6.00 ice cream with a 20 dollar bill. Go to the locker, get our clothes. Ask the guard if there was a closer changing room. He points past the entry gate to a bathroom. We leave and find it is the ONLY bathroom on this side and has a line 20 deep waiting to go in. So now it is, hope they let us back in or go home in bathing suits.
We went home in bathing suits because it wasn't worth the pain and suffering to have to ask and/or go all the way back.

The reason for that diatribe? Because we spent 3 hours at Sesame Place. We spent 8 days at Disney. I was not that annoyed in 8 days at Disney. I don't expect perfection anywhere. Can Disney do better in some things? Absolutely. Are they ever going to please everyone? No. I almost am glad that they have room to grow, so over the years of our future trips, there will be somehting different and exciting. They are adding all sorts of dining plans and am sure that they will have other changes that happen with those too. If you don't try it and learn from what failed, then you can't improve. We go to Disney and feel special. We miss it when we leave. We plan years ahead of each trip and it's been worth it. Even my husband, who is rarely please with a whole lot, could be heard to say as he shelled out over 6.00 for water that it wasn't even that expensive at Disney.

Disagree with you there. My six year old doesn't care to watch any of the "afternoon" Disney Channel programming (which now starts at 10am, so we pretty much turn off DC for the summer). She's not allowed to watch Hannah Montana or iCarly, has never asked to see HSM, turns off Suite Life and the others. (Same for my 3 year old.)

The young kids I know who are into these shows all seem to have sassy mouths and bratty attitudes and I'm not having that in my house.

Hey, everyone complains about the crowds anyway, right? There's one way to cut down attendance... (ducking! just kidding! sort of...) :flower3:

ITA about the shows! My 4 y/o loves Phineas and Ferb (we all do, actually) but we don't allow him to watch the older kids' shows. After Playhouse Disney ends we switch to PBS or Sprout. I don't really think there's much a 4 y/o would even understand on Hannah Montana or Zack and Cody. Plus.....just a sidebar - I really don't like how... erm.....mature the girls are dressed and made up on those shows. I know it's what's in style (thank you, Paris Hilton and her ilk) but on Disney shows I sort of expect something a little more (I can't believe I am saying this) wholesome.

It's official. I have become my mother.:sad2:

I must agree with your other post, but the dates are actually the 16th to the 26th that the entire park is closed for refurbishment. just like in the movie Vacation! (sorry folks the park is closed, the moose should have told you!)

hehehehehhee

I'm very sorry, I'm going to go off topic for a second due to the cartoon talk. My husband and I were just talking about the demise of the Saturday morning cartoon a couple of days ago. I'm a child of the 80's and I have such wonderful memories of watching Saturday morning cartoons. Smurfs, The Real Ghostbusters, Gummi Bears, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Snorks (anyone remember that one?). My husband loved Bugs Bunny (I wasn't a fan of that one, though). I think it is kind of sad that kids don't seem to have Saturday morning cartoons anymore :sad1:.

I actually remember when they started phasing out cartoons in favor of shows like Saved by the Bell and California Dreaming (and the other one was Hang Time, I think).

It is kind of sad I can remember the names of these shows/cartoons and I cannot remember what I had for lunch today-getting older sucks :sad2:

Very sorry to off topic...won't happen again (unless, of course, you bring up Saturday morning cartoons again :) ).

actually, you could bring it back on track by having WDW have a channel of all the OLDER shows that I saw: Spin and Marty, My friend flicka, the Mickey Mouse Club, sky king, Firebal XL-5, Stingray, etc. etc. you could even have those newer shows you mentioned!

But I miss the quiet little gardens and terraces where you used to be able to take your ice cream cones, eat away from the crowds, and feed the ducks.
