Discovery Cove
Now booked this for me and DH
DH will be doing the dolphin swim, as a gift from me (a very difficult past few years for him health wise).
I have not booked the swim as I am a non-swimmer (more of a sinker really!!)
My question is what is the experience like for a non swimmer.?

1. Will I be able to enjoy the lazy river, or is it too deep? Does it have floats/rings I could use?

2. Will I be able to snorkel by just putting my head underwater to see the fish (wonderful image I know!)

3. Is the ray pool shallow enough for me not to be worried?

4. Would I be best to go for the full suit as I believe it gives better buoyancy?

5. Could I wear a life vest and not look a prat?

6. When DH is doing his dolphin swim can I watch?

All replies welcomed!

Not sure about the full suits giving more bouyancy - generally the life vest thing you are given is enough but I guess it's how comfortable you feel with it. Ask them when you get there & they will advise you. They give everyone a life jacket type thing but there are extra bouyancy jackets too - my daughter was not a strong swimmer when she first went but found the extra bouancy aid kept her too much out of the water!

You should be able to "snorkel" & use the lazy river. If you can tread water a bit you should be able to go in all the pools.

Yes, you can watch the dolphin swim from the waters edge - you can't get very close though so be warned that any pictures you take probably won't be too good (they take some closer ones which you can buy - quite pricey but worth it).

Hope this helps.

from my experience of discovery cove last year

1. they have rings you can sit in in the lazy river and you can stand up in it.

2. yes you can snorkel just by putting your head under

3. the ray pool is only waist deep

4. you can choose what sort of suit you have

5. lots of people there wear life vests

6. you can watch from the beech while DH is doing the dolphin swit - you can take photos too. there were lots of people watching while i did my dolphin swim.

Most of the water is shallow in discovery cove, it's like a beech, starts of shallow and gets deeper.

I hope you enjoy your day there!! I thought it was great!

Thanks both for the really helpful repies...really looking forward to it now!!::yes:: :wave2: :sunny:

Hi,
I'm a very weak swimmer but I managed the Dolphin Swim ok.However I wasn't comfortable in the lazy river as it gets quite deep in places (6ft + ?) Really enjoyed the rest of the park though and had fun in the shallower parts of the other pools.

The water in Discovery Cove was deeper than any water I had ever swum in at the other Orlando theme parks. The floatation vests were freely available throughout the parks, (there were baskets around with them in) and they were bulky but fine. The "fish" pool with the stingrays, wreck and sharks was very deep and rocky!!! There was a shallower stingray pool, but not really for swimming in, just to interact with them. In the "lazy river" type area I did not notice any rings nor anyone using them on my visit last year...is this something new?

My DW doesn't swim a single stroke...but had no problems whatsoever at DC. The wet-suit is fully buoyant and you have no need for concern, DW was comfortable in 15 feet deep water after her initial concerns.

You can certainly just put your head in the water to snorkel..loads of folk do! Everyone wears the same outfits so there's absolutely no need to worry about any aspect of DC, and everyone is doing their own thing..........in the nicest possible way , nobody will be paying you the slightest bit of attention. Just enjoy the day!!
