We are taking a 10 year old boy to Discovery cove on the all inclusive deal. We are just a little concerned on how much swimming he will need to do and if he will get too tired. On the lazy river, coral reef, tropical swim, or the lagoon, are the many areas were you can just stand up or is it mostly all swimming? Thanks for any advice.

There is a very nice beach to enjoy! No you don't have to be in the water all the time, but you'll probably want to.

yea, and you have to wear the vest or wet suit, and they make you float, so you can just let the lazy river take you along and dont have to do anything, when you are in the water you mostly just float, you dont do any rigerous swimming :)

My 11 year old was fine with it and he is not a particularly good swimmer, although we did get him a cheap snorkel to practice with before we went.

As sbplayer say you wear some sort of flotation aid and just tend to drift around anyway so its not tiring. There are also loads of life guards around, so we were quite happy to let DS go off on his own knowing he was safe.

You'll all have a great time, don't worry.:thumbsup2

also, you can get a noodle to hold onto or sit on, so you really dont have to do n e work, those are free, many people use those since they dont like to move their muscles when they are on vacation :)

The river is *not* a lazy river - yes, you can mostly float but there are times you need to swim and there are places where the water is very deep. Just take a noodle and relax. Plus, you can get off at the aviaries and feed the birds.

As for being too much for a 10 year old, we first went when my daughter was 5 and we couldn't get her out of the water!

I spent 7 days at Discovery Cove back in November. There is a lot of swimming, but there is also alot of room too just pull up a chair and relax on the beach. I was exhausted by the end of my trip, but I don't know if that's from all the swimming or spending 7 days in a row at Discovery Cove plus Disney and Seaworld.

I have to ask, did you actually pay to get in DC for 7 days?
That would break my bank.

There are so many choices to do there and if he gets tired, he can just float down the lazy river. He will have a fabulous time. Here is a picture of GD (age 10) at Discovery Cove:

I took mine there age 18 months 5 and 7 and 2 of them couldnt swim , they were just fine and loved it, we just sat in the rings round the river , keeping one of kids with us or nearby, there are shallow areas and lots to do you wont have a problem .

Have fun its a great day out, even better now its all inclusive!;)
