Hello!!!

Is it worth it to book a cabana at DC? How much does it cost?
We are planning on coming early, around 8:00 - 8:30 am in June.
Are there good lounges and umbrellas if we don't rent a cabana?

Thanks!!!!

We are renting one for our June trip, I don't know when you are going but we are going before the Grand Reef opens so they only have 8 cabanas. The reason for us getting one is because we are bringing DD who is 20mo and so my mom wants to be able to relax in the shade with the ceiling fan with her during parts of the day.

We got the premium package since that is the only way you can book a cabana more than 2 weeks out (at least that is what i was told on the phone) and it was $229. But that includes allot of extras that will make the day fun, including a buoy delivered by a dolphin during the swim a underwater camera, tshirt, bag, stuffed dolphin or picture frame, and then you get a discount on the photo package too. I think it came to around $50 more than renting the cabana by itself.

Thanks for your note!!!
I have teenagers but if I had a little one I think the cabana is the way to go. Since we are going early I will try to get some shade, before the rush.

I appreciate your comments, thanks again!!!

This is our first ever trip to florida in October. Think about DC for my daughters 13 birthday. i bit confused by the costings, if i wanted to book a cabana the premium package is that $229 on top of the ticket price already. or is that per person.

its on top of the ticket price, but it is not per person.
we are renting one i oct & there is 5 of us,they recommended us,to request one, near the new grand reef, hope it is a good spot.

It is on top but if you are going for a Birthday then you get lots of goodies that will make it fun. This includes a personailzed buoy delivered to you by a dolphin during your swim as well as a t-shirt, bag, underwater camera, stuffed dolphin or a picture frame too. I don't know but they might also set up the cabana too for whatever celebration you are doing as well.

We just went to DC in March, and I would have been disappointed it we had booked a cabana. Although it was sunny the whole day, we were so BUSY the whole day (just me and my kids) that we wouldn't have been in it more than 30 minutes.

We ate breakfast right when we arrived, then got our stuff and got oriented (and I would do that opposite next time - get a chair with an umbrella, towels, snorkel, etc... THEN eat - we were hungry and not thinking clearly).

Then we swam and my DD and I did the lazy river - wow it was so fun. Then the kids did their swim with the dolphins. Then lunch. Then a bit more swimming and we enjoyed the aviary so much! A bit more swimming, a snack, and before long it was 5:30 and we got dried off and headed out.

If I had a baby, I'd either do the cabana, or if I had a family member, I'd split up and leave the baby with a parent or grandparent. It is so busy (well, to us, as my DD loved the birds so much and my DS loved the fish, he was born in Hawaii) that there is little down time other than eating. The day we were there (spring break) I'd say half the cabanas were not occupied. I can see why.

.

I agree-unless I was bringing an infant there is no way I would bother to rent one-we didn't even bother with getting a chair until after lunch and even then we only sat in it for 30 minutes tops! We were so busy with everything else there was no time to just sit around-and no one wanted to sit around wasting the day there anyway-we could sit on a beach at home for free if we wanted to do that LOL.

Count us among the ones who wouldn't have used one. We were busy from the time we got there at 8 until we left at 5. DH did sit for about an hour on one of the lounge chairs, but that was it. My kids love to swim though, and they never tired of the activities. So, I guess it all depends on your style. :goodvibes

I just booked the premium package We are a family of 5 including a 78 year old. I figure it will be a good place for her to camp out comfortably. Hopefully there will be bathrooms nearby for her use.
