I posted on the Discovery Cove site but didn't reach anyone with a disability. The lady who did respond was fantastic with information. Has anyone done this in a wheelchair? Any suggestions? Tips?

I saw no wheelchairs there when we went last year. The main pathways are concrete much like the paths at AK park. In other words, bumpy and uneven. The pool areas are only accessible by going across several feet to several yards of sand and/or going up and down stairs out of the water.

I don't think of DC as being a disability person friendly park. If you were assisting a child that was easily carried, then you could still have a good time, but an adult, I am not so sure that it would be a great place to be, if you wanted to maximize the experience.

Sorry, to say this, but we were both happily tired after our day there. I used an ECV at the Disney parks, because the amount of walking there far exceeds what you would do at DC. I can float with the best of 'em. ;)

If you have more specific questions, I will do my best to explain it in further detail.

Disabled guests

Discovery Cove can accommodate guests with disabilities who are able to maneuver themselves with limited assistance (or with the aid of a personal assistant) during their dolphin experience and in the various wading locations. Discovery Cove also offers specially-designed outdoor wheelchairs with oversized tires for easy maneuvering on the beach. Wheelchairs can be reserved by calling 1-877-4-DISCOVERY.

I can walk with a cane but it's exhausting for me to keep up with my three kids and husband (I have spina bifida). I'm a great swimmer so once I'm in the water I should be fine. Hopefully, we can use a beach wheelchair on the concrete parts to save some steps for me. My hubby could easily carry me if need be through the sand. How sad that a park that could be so wonderful for the handicap is so difficult to get around in! Reminds me of how poorly thought out Aquatica is too!
