We booked our vacation and i noticed on my discover card the "summer fun" catigory for 5% cash back that starts july 1st is for theme parks. So now i'm wondering if that would include my disney vacation since i booked through disney? if no one knows does anyone have any idea how i could find out?

i would love to get 5% cash back on a portion of my disney trip to use at disney :thumbsup2 and since my final payment isnt due until the end of july i could wait to take advantage of that promotion

I noticed that as well but can't answer your question either. Maybe give Discover a call and ask what will be included? Would be great if it worked on the vacation package, Photopass, and Special Event tickets too! Post back if you find out.

I used my Discover Card to book my trip in 2009 and did not get credit. When I called Discover I was told that it was because the charge was from "Disney Travel CO" or something like that; can't remember exactly what the charge said.

There is a cap on what you can earn, but last year I was able to get 5% cash back on our trip in the summer fun category. I believe the cap then was $1500.

Its really hard to guess when they do these category promotions. Some places never seem to show up as the category that you expect it to show up as. Instead of Theme Park, it might show us as Travel, for example.

Purchases at a convenience store might show up as grocery, gas, convenience store or something else altogether, you never really know for sure until you've purchased things at that retailer before. You might be able to find out by calling Discover directly, but they may not even know for sure.

And, as someone else said, there is always a limit on these promotions. The grocery store one usually has a limit of $250 worth of purchases to earn the 5%.

For my trip last year I used my discover to pay for things in the park, and that all counted toward the 5% cashback, but for booking the vacation, it showed up as "travel"

im gonna call but won't get a chance to until later tonight or tomorrow. if someone gets a chance to call before me could post the answer that would be great! at least i could get 5% back on some of my park purchases since i'll be traveling within the summer fun catigory.

i really hope that my trip will count :-)

I just talked to Discover and was crossing my fingers.

The lady said if you book with a travel agent, then no, the charge would be from the travel agent. If you buy direct from the Disney theme park, then yes, but that there would be a limit and time cap on it.

good to know, when it gets closer to july i'll call and pick their brain some more. i did book directly with disney so it looks liek i'll be in luck :thumbsup2 I'm sure the cap will be $1500 as it usually is on the harder to earn cash back bonus but i dont have to make final payment on my trip until the end of July so i'll just leave the money sitting in my savings a little while longer. I like seieng that large number anyways :rolleyes1

Interesting. I bought a package last year through AAA travel and it came up on my Disney Visa as "Disney-WDTC" not AAA. May have to give Discover a call when the 5% for "Summer Fun" is active and see what answer I get then. I've got the Chase Freedom as well and can use that for the 5% on Gas if I were to hit the cap on Discover. In the meantime, maybe I'll put the $200 deposit for my new package with AAA on Discover and see what it comes through as and what category Discover puts that in to give me an idea...

When I have done the %5 cashback for travel purchases, the limit has been $800 total purchases so $40 cashback maximum. $1500 total purchases sounds high.

The limits were raised this year to $1500 for each category in the 3 month periods.

When does the promo end, do you know? We're going to WDW in mid-Sept and if the promo lasts thru Sept., we could use our Disc Card for items in the parks.

Great, thanks! Will use my Disney Rewards card for the Disney package bc they have a 6 mo no interest thing going. But will make a note right now to use the Discover for in-park purchases. 5% is 5%, right? little things add up! :thumbsup2

I just noticed this today as well! I'm the making the final payment with my Discover card in July :yay: It does last through September. I'll definitely be attaching this CC to my KTTW and just paying it off with cash. Why not earn the extra 5%?

5% cash back on groceries is for the month of May. It's only good on up to $300... boo to that!
