The current promotion on Discover Cards for this quarter is 5% cash back at restaurants. We were planning to use our Disney Visa redemption card dollars for our meals on our June trip but now it looks like we will use Discover and save the Disney Visa dollars to pay for other things.

Question: If you link the discover card to the magic band, will the magic band bill the discover card separately for each restaurant or does the bill go through each day? I want to be sure all restaurant meals get the 5% but if the magic band messes that up then I won't link it. Hope this question makes sense.

I also have a discover card and find they have a strange way of defining your charges. I have not gotten a lot of my 5% from Oct to Dec with the online ordering promo. They classify some as service instead of online retailer. They only thing I might see is if they classify a charge as a theme park ( entertainment) instead of restaurant.

If you pay with your magic band, it will be billed in a lump sum as a room charge. However, you could still link the Discover card to your band to pay for non-restaurant purchases and just give them the physical card when paying at a restaurant.

Last December they had that same promotion. I used my discover at each of the restaurants so that I could get the discount. It will not work with your magic band to get the 5% discount.

If they don't show up correctly, call them. I had several restaurant charges show up as 'theme park' or 'entertainment' or something. A quick call and some common sense got my 5% back. This did NOT work with Citi. They insisted that they could not change the coding on any purchase, even if it was clearly 'wrong'.

That's what I was concerned about. What we want to do is get the 5% at the restaurants and pay for the other stuff with either Disney Visa or Disney Visa rewards card. Because all the purchases at Disney would have a 2% reward if on the Visa, I believe.

So I guess the plan is to carry the Discover to all the restaurants and link Disney Visa to magic band!!

Just wanted to be sure to let all the budgeteers know about the 5% with Discover. It will make a big difference for a long vacation.

Chase Freedom also has 5% cash back on restaurants this qtr, fyi
Maximum is $1500 in charges up to $75 in rewards and my Discover is the same limit as a PP posted

coding comes up from Visa/Mastercard, not from Citi. Ive never heard of this before though. I know disneyland parking codes as a service instead of parking... :|

I thought Chase Freedom wasn't until next quarter for restaurants?

That is correct, current Chase Freedom is 5% on groceries, next quarter is restaurants.

OP: Like users say, id look to see if you have any cards that give u a discount with hotels, use magic band to charge everything to hotel and profit!
