I'm just curious - has anyone ever noticed if any of the 3 hotels offer more than one discount code, for the same room for the same time period?

For example, I got a fan club rate for PBH in April on a deluxe room. I'm wondering if it's unreasonable to hope that they would actually offer an entertainment rate for the same time, same room.

Has anyone ever held a ressie with a fan club rate, and then obtained an entertainment rate for the same room? (no switiching hotels or room types)

As long as it is available for your room type and date, you can switch from the FAN Club Rate to the Entertainment. You even keep the exact same confirmation number.

I switched from the AAA Rate to the FAN Club Rate for Jan 2003 and they just changed the Rate Code that I would be charged and sent me a new reservation confirmation letter reflecting the rate change. I kept my original confirmation #.

You weren't looking to use both the FAN Club and Entertainment Rates at the same time for the same room were you? I believe they won't let you do that. I am sure that the special discounts cannot be combined. However, I could be wrong.

LOL...now wouldn't THAT be the deal of a lifetime?! Both fan club and entertainment discounts!!

No, my question was would they offer either/or (fan or entertainment rates) for the same room, same time period.

I booked RPH with Fan Club and then when the Entertainment rate came out I just called and had them apply the ER instead. Same room type, same time, same confirmation number.

Thanks Aisling - that's what I needed to hear! I was beginning to think the fan club rate was the best I could hope for on that room, but I will now keep trying for the entertainment.

Sheesh....I think all those operators know my voice by now...!

Hi, I keep hearing about these different rates, I have a AAA card, but I don't know how to use this to get a discount, or about 'Entertainment' rate. Can you help please?

There are many different discounts that are offered at various times.

Entertainment rate - you need an entertainment card for this - go to www.entertainment.com. Although universal hotels are not listed in the book, they do offer the discounts. Discounts are often 50% off rack rate, so it's worth the investment of buying the entertainment book.

AAA membership - discounts offered to AAA members, but not sure how much of a discount is offered.

Fan Club - these cards are distributed by employers if they've signed up. There is someone here on the boards who will send you one if you need one. I think it's Tinkerbarb. Do a search! Discounts are up to 30% off rack rates.

All Access - associated with the Hard Rock Hotel - you can sign up online for membership. The cost is $25, but again, I'm not sure exactly what the discount is.

The only way to get a discount applied is to phone and ask. Often, when you make a ressie, a discount is not yet available. However, you may still want to book the room to secure it's availability, then keep phoning back to check if any of the above mentioned discounts have become available. I've been phoning almost daily for the last two weeks - thank goodness it's a 1-800 number! Again, you have to ask for them, they don't offer them unless you ask.
