discounts??

I read the trip report thread a lot, and I always read how a lot of people book rooms, then a few weeks later get a discount code, then call back and get a room upgrade at half the price, then because it was so cheap, add on days, etc. etc. Where do you find out the discounts and codes? I have belonged to a bunch of boards now for a few years, and I never find anything. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
